Armed struggle against whom? If asked many citizens of the U.S. would not know what the status of Puerto Rico is. And, if told that Puerto Rico wanted to become independent, they would not care.
I have been Following this struggle for more years than most of the posters here have been alive. How many of you know that Puerto Rican separatists fired on congress from the visitor's balcony in the 1950's. And, fired a mortar at the U.N. building a few years later? This struggle has been going on for many years. I have garnered the impression that the major barrier to Puerto Rican Independence is not the U.S., but the fact that the Puerto Ricans themselves are too evenly divided on what they want. About half want Independence, the other half want to stay as a protected territory.
If
most wanted Independence, they would have it by now.
The fight is an internal struggle. Figure it out, and then tell us what you want.
