Well, one needs irritant it seems... How 'bout those facts: computer wiz kid tried Canada naturalisation and was ousted home after 2 years of social boycot (you know!). He is currently editor with local Stereo-video mag and gets a breather on expensive vacation tours... Local rock tycoon and KGB prop (!) got so much ahead as buy him flat in London and visit there while staying Moscow - for same (ok, deserved) social boycot. It's anyway same to all - you Russians stick to you community and have no place with our gentlemanly ways... Seva N, BBC Russian service, kept job for him being important official's son and for intricate socialising - but never accepted socially and ever hated/reported on. Now radio out, he desperately hangs on to Russian local shaky projects, nothing of British origin... What "hard work" you talk about to break in West if an Indian college grad got automatically promoted to top management at a Brit company I so much as visited for press coverage, my any service unregarded?!. There are 2 hi-end audio manufacturers of Russian origin in US, and one (Creek ams) is long back to Moscow, while BAT engineer looked same shut out and kept to his own folk at function which I visited. There is nominal acceptance of local talent by the West, but I'm talking of rescuing not fighting one's way to deserve normal entourage. I hate working round the clock for boss with no future to me. I am for Dale Carbegie approach which i learned from his book. And it's not my "problem" as much as the West's one for luring in the cream and not raising local mediocrity. There's no system to that. There were only crooks who came Russia in 90's to "recruit". There was one Bill Scandrich at The VoA who hinted prospects upon great work in local media - which I did and waited. In essence: change world, break curtain, waive levy.
