I'd love being Mexican immigrant, but...

For all the hulabaloo about Mexicans/Cubans etc sneaking in and snatching jobs in US - can one think of a different approach? And advice me?.. I been toiling for decades in humanitarian spheres building me carier and yet steadily missing on opportunity to comfortably work/settle in the West. Those broken thru by virtue of their legal, computer, medical or other needy occupation - succeed no better as most of them get isolated/boycotted/despized wherever they landed job. I get no positive story of single Russian carreer (what, misspelled again?) in US or Europe. Excepting Mikhail Shemyakin but he's real gem. West mistreats us like we're dirt who better stay where we were. But I won't dwell on opportunity at home, it's States or Mexico I'd be interested to go if natives go out. Is it viable or what? When I visited LA and London on business, I got rebuffed with "don't try rob us of our own employment and space". Is it this impetuous? Do excuse if this does not capture you to even reply. It's not unusual as T.Jones sang.

Well I am sure that your problems with emigrating to this country are genuine, however as I grew up in the most international city in this country (NYC) and had a few Russian friends, I will say that this statement: I get no positive story of single Russian carreer (what, misspelled again?) in US or Europe

is false.

Just to throw in my experience......Sacramento CA has one of the highest Russian populations in the US. I have Russian friends who are Optometrists, Owners of Construction companies, Supermarket owners. Lot's of great careers and every one of them worked thier asses off night and day for the first 10 years before they go to enjoy the fruits of thier labor. There are careers here for anybody who works hard enough and believes it will pay off.

Glad/surprised to hear that last one. Perhaps ideal resolution to "the other man's grass is always greener" issue would be set up an open int'l community, a free territory with easy regulation to welcome a restless individual in. Auroville, South India, was meant to shape that way before receding as spa. I loved the place for exactly easy settling terms. Americans still honor the place for settling too. Never could understand the reason to drive 'em away from your country. Adventure?

Well, one needs irritant it seems... How 'bout those facts: computer wiz kid tried Canada naturalisation and was ousted home after 2 years of social boycot (you know!). He is currently editor with local Stereo-video mag and gets a breather on expensive vacation tours... Local rock tycoon and KGB prop (!) got so much ahead as buy him flat in London and visit there while staying Moscow - for same (ok, deserved) social boycot. It's anyway same to all - you Russians stick to you community and have no place with our gentlemanly ways... Seva N, BBC Russian service, kept job for him being important official's son and for intricate socialising - but never accepted socially and ever hated/reported on. Now radio out, he desperately hangs on to Russian local shaky projects, nothing of British origin... What "hard work" you talk about to break in West if an Indian college grad got automatically promoted to top management at a Brit company I so much as visited for press coverage, my any service unregarded?!. There are 2 hi-end audio manufacturers of Russian origin in US, and one (Creek ams) is long back to Moscow, while BAT engineer looked same shut out and kept to his own folk at function which I visited. There is nominal acceptance of local talent by the West, but I'm talking of rescuing not fighting one's way to deserve normal entourage. I hate working round the clock for boss with no future to me. I am for Dale Carbegie approach which i learned from his book. And it's not my "problem" as much as the West's one for luring in the cream and not raising local mediocrity. There's no system to that. There were only crooks who came Russia in 90's to "recruit". There was one Bill Scandrich at The VoA who hinted prospects upon great work in local media - which I did and waited. In essence: change world, break curtain, waive levy.
