Nice..a civil political discussion
I am interested in the debate about immigration and the politics of the debate. I am an immigrant myself and my business took me all around the world. I am having a hard time understanding how a "nation of immigrants" can oppose immigration. I'll try to be active in your discussions and maybe you can explain it to me.
Simon

You and me both dude. I think 99% of people who oppose immigration could help to achieve their goals by being the first to leave. The truth is... they're bigots. They might deny it. But it's true. Locationists if nothing else. People who believe inalienable rights are endowed only to those born in a particular geographic region. No more defensible than racism or religious persecution.

The argument is almost always about ILLEGAL immigration and not immigration in general. There IS a difference.
But that's for another thread if you'd care to start one.
Welcome, SimonB.

I don't remember anyone having a problem with immigration when it is done legally. Most people have a problem when one country is cheating, breaking laws, and fucking poeple from other countries out of immigrating here. Why should millions of mexicans be able to say "fuck it" and cost us money, increase our crime rate, and bring the 3rd world to us, when people from other countries are playing by the rules. I'm sorry, wait no I'm not, if your an illegal alien ("undocumented worker") FUCK YOU. I don't give a shit if you work 60 hours a week and pay taxes, you broke in line, others are going through shit to get here, go back and come back LEGALLY.

Thanks, you said exactly what I was going to say after reading the OP.
ANY country that keeps its borders totally open with other countries is asking for major trouble.
All countries must monitor and keep track of immigrants.
It doesn't mean their anti-immigrant. It just means they're using the common sense needed to keep a fully functional and sustainable society and economy.

BTW claiming that people who are against illegal immigration are bigots or "locationists" or are guilty of something "No more defensible than racism or religious persecution." won't get ya far here :-)
Now, opponents of ALL immigration maybe. That's not at all what this is about and if you don't know that, now you DO.

I never would have thought that you would think that.
