Betrayed

Well, the politicians have evidently made their devil's compact on immigration. The Dems love it because they will get their millions of new voters. The Republicans love it because they have kissed the arses of their business buddies who want a steady supply of cheap labor to keep wages permanently depressed for working Americans. This combination of low-income hispanic voters who will always vote for more and more "free" benefits from the government (requiring higher taxes on the "rich"--meaning middle income earners) and continuing pressure to keep wages as low as the traffic will bear will eventually destroy the middle class.

I'm a Vietnam veteran, who formerly was proud to serve, but I'm sick to death at what these bastards have just done. They are cowards, people without principle, scumbag hacks totally in the pockets of their particular spcial interest groups, with no regard for or interest in pursuing policies that are in the best interests of the American people, just in retaining office and getting fat at the public trough. If I'd known in 1966 what America was going to look like today--especially in light of this total sellout to the illegal lobby--I would have hied my ass off to Canada. I'm through with the political process, I will never vote again. It does no good, because these guys will always serve their own selfish interests first, foremost, and always, even if it is detrimental to the country.

I just posted a thread on this a little while ago. To me it sounded like a lot of illegals had little chance of becoming citizens and would actually be forced out of the country after 2 years, with little chance of permanent residency. Doesn't sound like any kind of amnesty thus far, based upon that report I saw.

Bi-partisan agreement reached on illegal immigrants

Ronald Reagan in the late 1980's granted Amnesty to about a million illegals, or something like that. He granted blanket amnesty (which is not what is on the table today).

Today's version of amnesty is called "earned path to citizenship" by its creators, which it somewhat is. They did come here illegally, but the path towards citizenship under last years McCain-Kennedy-Bush plan did provide a big fine for them and they had to wait a long time to apply for citizenship. It would have also thrown out the approximately 2/3 of the approximately 12-17 million illegals currently in this country.

I still do not fully know the full details of the new Bush-McCain-Kennedy plan. Going to wait and listen on that one.

My first impulse is to worry. Any time Bush says he likes a bill I worry, a LOT.
