Will Influx of Illegals Help Ease the Retirement of Baby Boomers?

I was talking to someone at work, who is a major in Economics, and he was saying that the influx of illegal immigrants may help ease the burden of pending retirement from the Baby Boom generation (i.e. Social Security burden upon non-Baby Boom workers).

Any thoughts on this?

Well I guess that would all depend on how many illegals actually pay taxes as well as how many illegals recieve money from social programs.

It's certainly something I've been pondering. And that comes back to the question of how many illegals can get assimilated into the system and start paying taxes, and how many are a burden upon social services. Of course, they would need to become better educated in order to have higher paying jobs. The problem I see with quite a few Hispanics, whether they are illegal or not, is that many of them don't put an emphasis upon furthering their education.

Well they would have to learn a whole new language first, and I think they would rather sit around untill we bend over backwards for them so they can get around without learning English. If they keep coming over and having babies like they have been they won't have to worry about anything before too long. They can just make it a spanish speaking country.

I speak Spanish often with immigrants that are learning English and they see learning English as their #1 priority 9/10, not so much furthering education. The thing that would help boomers and the country is to have perhaps those immigrants immerse their kids in English (that would also help them no doubt with English, having to constantly use it). That way we don't become a country of catering to another language and make this place even more divided than it is already.

Well, I don't think they will help in the financial sense, since illegals generally work in low wage jobs, so the state is not getting a lot of revenue from that. Maybe if one were to say that Latinos have higher birth rates, and you anticipate that they will have a lot of kids and some will go on to work in some middle class jobs, then maybe in the long-run they could alleviate any US population decline, but that could take longer than when the baby boomer generation starts to retire.
