Most of Our Ancestors were Immigrants
In the early years of America ..everyone coming over to the "New Land" was an immigrant. America was a land of opportunity..with doors open wide. If no one had come from other countries ..more than likely you or I would not be here.. We would be somewhere else: Germany, Italy, Ireland, Poland, etc.
Why is that we have forgotton the struggles of our ancestors and denied this same right to those who are wanting to come to this coutnry with the same hopes our ancestors had????

The biggest difference is our ancestors came here legally to become part of the system and contribute to it.

America was a totally different place back then. Now we are a soveriegn nation with defined borders and laws. I don't see how pro-illegal immigration people can complain. The immigrants are getting to walk all over us and our laws. The only thing pro-illegals could complain about is that there are a large number of people who want the border shut down, but what does that matter. "Our" government is on the side of the illegals.

We haven't forgotten, that is why we are against illegal immigration. Back then we could take a lot more immigrants, who came here legally!!!!, because there were a lot less people over here. Not to mention that back then, even though early on there was violence between many immigrant groups, they worked together in a common language to make this country and their lives better. Now we have people who don't want to learn English and sneak over here ILLEGALLY, drop an anchor baby, and asks the government where their check is.

All these arguments are pretty good, but I think most people remeber how their immigrant treated tjhe people living here and are afraid history will repeat itself. Just a thought.

Well so far it has been the pro-illegals who have been unruly.

Our ancestors came over here legally, or at least mine did. My ancestor came over and worked on the founding of our nation (Declaration of Independence).
Almost everyone is OK with legal immigration - it's ILLEGAL immigration that's the problem. The very idea that these people refuse to work within the laws is enough for us to not want them here, they are criminals and felons just because of the way that they got here and have no respect for the laws. Why would you fight so that someone who has no respect for the laws can come into America illegally with no repercussions? Maybe I'm misunderstanding you.

Agreed. And furthermore agreed with every point made by you and Tumbleweed. This is just another example of a person obfuscating the difference between a legal and an illegal immigrant. Illegal immigrants are different -- face it, folks. To compare the actions of legal immigrants who came here and faced oppression and illegal immigrants who think they have some sort of "right" to have all of the same stakes as legals is poppycock. Their first act upon entering the country is slapping it in the face, so how can you even compare the two?
To the OP, you're right -- my Grandmother came from Spain and she felt illegal immigrants were a huge slap in the face to people who came here the right way. Funny, the voices of legal immigrants are the ones who are the most drowned out in this debate.

The first Immigration law that held was back in the 1920's .. So why is it we forget that ..people like those who are trying to cross over ..have been doing this since the first pilgims landed here and pushed aside the American Indian who was really the first and only natural American !
