Do We Need to Understand Our Own Nation's History?
Some people say, "No Nation is big enough if its people do not know its history"
Some people say, "We are to be a global citizen, we shouldn't concern with our own nation's background today"
What's your view? The above two statements are just the examples I got from polling.
Share with me, and defend it from others who oppose your view!

Its trues the the US has been an isolationist state for a large portion of our history. But WWII catapulted us to super-power status.
I think that it is our duty as the world's, sole mega-power, to preserve world peace even it does not concern us directly.

I disagree. World War I itself was extremely unnecessary and if Germany won the war, there would have been no Treaty of Versailles and thus no World War II! Germany most likely would have won had the US not intervened. And the CIA killed hundreds of millions of innocent people throughout the course of the Cold War to build US dominance and Bush "tries bringing democracy" to the Middle East by bombing and invading them.

As a Latin scholar (who is proud to have thought of this theory, before being told it was already thought of), let me interject on the point about the Trojan horse. It's interesting to note that the Greek God of horses is Poseidon, the God of the sea, who is also the God of Earthquakes, and from a Latin scholar's perspective it's quite plausible that the Trojan Horse that let the Greeks into Troy was, in reality, an earthquake. There is also signifigant archaelogical evidence of an earthquake in the ruins of Troy, so it's more than just a theory.

I always admired the way the ancients had their Gods multi-task.

I'd heard that about the Trojan horse before.
And yes, I think people need to understand both national and world history, but in schools I think an emphasis should be placed on US history, and it is essential to know.
