My Father served in the Pacific on a carrier that was hit a number of times and my late Father in Law survived the D-Day invasion. A big, BIG thank you to ALL those men.

I thank them as well.
It's sad the day was overshadowed by current events .

I thank All who have fought and died in all the wars. It is a shame that their sacrifices are pretty much remembered on a single day. They all are heroes.

That's a good point, but don't forget Veterans Day and Memorial Day as well.
In my case, I think of both these brave men often, especially my own father, and that makes me give a passing thought to all of them.

Which have already begun to dwindle in their true meaning and importance, just as Christmas and Thanksgiving have, as well as basically every other holiday. I'm sick of these important event becoming nothing mor ethan just a chance to have a day off, or to celebrate, it's ridicilous.

Yep. Well said.

Well to be honest, I wouldn't mind a time when there was no NEED for a memorial day or a veterans day, but of course that's wishful thinking. It's not going to happen, ever.
Christmas, on the other hand is a religious holiday and I feel strong religious feeling is on the wane in the US. But Thanksgiving IS just a day off. It has no real meaning whatsoever, unless you want to celebrate giving the Indians a bum deal. Much of that tale is fiction anyhow.
