Cool Srebrenica and the UN

Another piece of the puzzle and the Lessons to be learned from the "Impartial" Peacekeeping operations of the UN : In JUly 95 in the Muslim enclave Srebrenica the worst massacre since the end of the WWII was committed spite the fact that the UN declared S. the UN Safe Area ... In 1995 all the conflict parties knew that the war was drawing to an end and tried to gain as many privileges for themselves as they could.
In his report of 30.5.1995, the UN Secretary -General said the following about the Bosnian governmentīs provocations from the safe areas :"Unprovoked attacks launched from the safe areas are inconsistent with their concept ... In recent months Bosnian government forces have considerably increased the military activity in most safe areas, and many of them, including Sarajevo,Tuzla and Bihac, have been incorporated into the Bosnian government military campaigns, the headquarters of the Fifth Corps being in Bihac and of the 2nd in Tuzla ...The B.government also maintains a substantial number of troops in Srebrenica , which is a violation of the demilitarization agreement ...,Gorazde and Zepa, while Sarajevo is the location of the general command of the government army ... " In his testimony before the Hague tribunal gen. Sefer Halilovic, the Chief Commander of the Bosnian army acknowledged " using helicopters to militarily resupply and further militaarize the supposed " safe area " in violation of the UN policy.
Reminded that the safe area agreement specifically prohibited flights from Tuzla to Srebrenica and Zepa to provide military supplies, Halilovic said :" If I could have, I would have sent more helicopters ... "
Nasir Oric, one of the Izetbegovicīs commanders, and his terrorizing extremist troops (rather than the Islamists they were common criminals , Oric came from the Handzar Division of the Bosnian army, named after the WWII Waffen SS Division, trained and led by fanatical Muslim veterans of the Afghan War )were allowed to remain in S. (he slipped into it in 92 and used the Srebrenica civilians as his shield and over 3 yrs he slaughtered around 3.000 Serbian civilians around S.,Oric himself confessed proudly these crimes, even in the Hague ) , because as Lord Owen stated, "the SC of the UN fatefully decided that S. and its surroundings will be treated as a safe area free from armed attacks but without neither demilitarization not demarcation of the boundaries of the S.safe area ..."
The BS army in its last ethnic cleansing operation was sending its troops to S. all the spring and by May 95 no food or fuel supplies could reach S. As the BS army was marching on S., app.20.000 Muslim refugees were fleeing before it in hope to find shelter in the enclave but the UN local command allowed them to stay outside it only. 6.7.95 S. was hermetically besieged and shelled by the Radko Mladic īs army .The remainng 15.000 Muslim soldiers who stayed inside the S. because Izetbegovic recalled from S. well in advance all (17-18,21 ?) S.īs commanders and deliberately left S. militarily unprotected , asked the S. UN commander Dutch col. Ton Karremans to be delivered their arms but the UN command refused to return them their weapons ... Under heavy shelling col. Karremans called by phone the headquarters of the UN in Sarajevo and demanded air support from the NATO but gen. Janvier, the UN commander in Sarajevo refused his demand ... the 20.000 refugees camping in tents outside S. began to roll into already overcrowded 45.000 S. under the protection of app. 600 lightly armed Dutch soldiers ... The Dutch let in only 5.000 of the refugees ( 13.7. the Dutch colonel, after having consulted it with gen. Janvier, handed all of them to the Serbs in exchange for the captured 17 Dutch soldiers ... they were shot down as the first ones ... ) 10.7. col. Karremans asked gen. Janvier for the NATO air support again, this time in written ... Gen. Janvier refused again but in the end under the pressure of Karremans he promised to do something in that ... However, the NATO took its time and before they struck, the Serbs stopped artillery shelling and the NATO strike was postponed and conditioned by the ultimatum given to the Serb under which the B.Serbs were obliged to withdraw from S. by 6.00 a.m. the next morning
which naturally they did not and there was no end of surprise : on that morning of 11th,July at 10.30 a.m. col. Karremans received a shocking message from gen. Janvier that his request for the NATO strikes was submitted on the wrong form .... (!!!) At 10.30 col. Karremans sub mitted a new request on the proper form but by this time the NATO aircraft had to return from their mission to their Italian base for refuelling because they were in the air since 6.00 ... (!!! ) Left without any help on the NATO part, col. Karremans at 14.30 ordered two Dutch fighters to drop on the BSerbs positions bombs (each dropped one) ... upon which gen. Mladic threatened to shoot the Dutch captured soldiers if there were another air attack ...
Two hours later gen. Mladic entered S. , accompanied by the BS cameramen.
In the evening Radko Mladic invited the Dutch colonel for a drink and a nice photograph was taken of them touching the glasses ... Mladic demanded that all the weapons will be handed over to the Mladic men .On this night the 15.000 Muslims soldiers left secretly via mountains S. ... On July 12th, the buses ordered in advance by gen. Mladic arrived which transported cca 23.000 Muslim women and children to the Muslim territories - the rest of women and children started their 4 -day- march on foot ... on aboarding the buses the BS soldiers separated boys over 12 and men up to 77 from the rest and gathered them in the trucks and depots under the pretext of questioning them about the Muslim war criminals ... but shortly after the first executions of unarmed Muslims in Kravica began, the first ones being those 5.000 Muslims who were hiding at the Dutch base in the Potocari village ... 16.7. the Sarajevo UN headquarters negotiated with Mladic the withdrawal of the Dutch soldiers under the condition they leave to Mladic all the food supplies, medical equipment , and chiefly all the weapons which the Dutch contingent did ...
