The rich and ancient documented multicultural history of the black sea territory of Abkhazia, which was once a favourite holiday spot for Russians, burnt to ashes in the war with the just recently founded republic of Georgia in 1992. Before Abkhazia had declared independence. Today the factually independent , but nowhere recognized small republic lies in a politically shadowy spot of the black sea coast between Russia and Georgia and somehow tries to build new lives for its citizens.
But other caucasian peoples, Greeks, Jews, Turks, Russians and others who once belonged to this multicultural and vibrant spot have left.
