Adolf Hitler

Hitler was responcible for the killing of millions of people and i am in no way condoning his actions, but you have to admit he was a genius, he took a country in the depths of fincal ruins to a country that would freaten the world in a few short years, very few people have acheived this kind of thing before

Yeah, Hitler was a great guy. The only man in the world who could have turned Germany from this:

To this:

-50 million Germans. He was a great guy, if you hate Germans.

Hitler was the consequence of disenchanted German WWI vets who couldn't understand why Germany was told by their own country to surrender while they were still well within French territory. That along with right-wing ethnocentric fanaticism, decades of economic depression, conspiracy theories about Jews, and a multi-party state in which a party like the Nazis can get only 30% of the vote and still become the dominate party. Basically with all this going for him, all someone like hitler would have to do is stir some trouble, write a book, and make sentimental nationalistic speeches. When the guy was actually leader he slept in till the afternoon, created a chaotic and inefficient government, and when he did get directly involved in running the country he made a lot of stupid decisions.

From the standpoint of a conqueror Hitler was capable, in so far as he put Germany on the warpath, and just ran circles around Chamberlain and the rest of Europe. Hitler was a brilliant statesmen, you could say. Getting away with so much territorial annexation through sheer brinksmanship, building up his war machine and getting away with it, forging an alliance with Stalin, and all of that. Drake does raise a good point on the countless times Hitler bungled the German war machine every time he stepped in and pushed his generals aside. The true tactical genius would have to belong to the German general staff, and people like Heinz Guderian who wrote Achtung Panzer, the manuscript for blitzkrieg.

Hitler was not brillant. He had good skills to manipulate people, teached himself how to hold succesfull speeches and managed the way up to the top. He also had fair amount of luck along his way. It should be mentioned that his superior in the army in WWI refused to give him any higher pos because he considered him to be a fanatic and therefore being not the right one for any higher position.

Hitler was a somewhat able army leader but pretty unable to learn and adopt. In this regard he was quite the opposite of Stalin. Stalin was a terrible army leader first but proved to be a good learner and improved largely over time.

Deep inside Hitler always remained the failed painter he was with uniting the worst political ideologies of his time into one person and the megalomany to make them come true.

your right hitler had alot of luck and did not adpat but i still think for a homeless painter to rise to the leader of a country that nearly dominated the world showed some kind for brillance from his part

he didnt really build things himself, he got an iconic status because of the mania that reigned in germany. in this regard i would call goebels a (evil) genius, or goering.. the military strength and internal discipline made germany so strong. hitler was just a puppet in this due to charisma and a hyped status, the man had no genius talents.
