Wesley Autrey: NYC Subway hero

I'm sure you have all heard of this guy, Wesley Autrey, who jumped into the path of an oncoming New York City Subway train to rescue a man who had suffered a seizure of some sort. Autrey first tried to grab his arm and pull him up. Seeing the train approaching, he jumped onto the track and lay between the tracks on top of the man while a train weighing some 70,000 lbs (per car) flew over them, and right next to a 625 Volt third rail to boot.

A hero of the classic kind. A man who saw someone in danger and risked his life without a thought for himself. He was one of the special guests at the President's State of the Union address and he deserves every honor he gets.

This guy almost restores my faded faith in humanity.

My hats off to that guy.

Recognition at the SOTU address was well deserved for a hero like Wesley Autrey.

As a FRer, I salute Mr. Autrey for his valor in jumping on those tracks to save another person's life. The fact that he jumped on those tracks as someone who was totally untrained and seeing another person's life, without considering the danger, he was placing himself in, should be applauded. I responded to the shortest flight to Florida (Air Florida) into the 14th street Bridge, and remember how Lenny Skutnick jumped into the icy waters of the icy Potomac. That too was an act of heroism, but we feared we would be stripping down to our wet suits to save both of their lives.

Thank-Gawd both gentlemen were able to save the lives two different people. Believe me, we professionals appreciate the fact that these gentlemen saved both their lives, and the lives of two people who were in peril of losing their lives.
