I think that taking drugs for exams is just cheating. When you have to use that knowledge in your life you won't be on the drug will you?

Well if it's just fixing a problem then that's alright. But you'd be better with anti-depressants than concentrating drugs.

But good luck with your exams. I have just one coming up next week, but I also have a committee meeting soon...kind of like an exam given by 5 professors, where I'm the only one taking it...

thanks for wishing me luck..
depression is a disease, and it definitely disturbes chemichal balance of the brain.
I couldn't concentrate, and it's like the pill helps. couldn't get it here in india though.

Well...it's most direct cause is the 'chemical imbalance' that people talk about, but that can be changed or exacerbated by traumatic experiences or other things externally. The balance of neurotransmitters in the brain isn't entirely 'fixed'. It's always changing in reponse to internal and external stimuli.
Is Depression Due to Chemical Imbalance?
This website claims that depression is the result of overstimulation of cortisol in the body (something I was taught in nursing school). Of course, I have heard the chemical imbalance lines before and don't doubt some imbalance, but it's really a matter of how your body is reacting to a chronic overstimulation. Depression is not entirely a disease that makes you a 'victim of your genes'.

No...but chronic stress (and thus excess cortisol) isn't something one can always control or avoid, either. Shit happens, and sometimes it just keeps on happening.
Some people just seem more resistant than others to those effects. I seem to be one of them; I just don't stress out very easily, and when I do, it doesn't last. It's like I don't have the ability to sustain those cortisol levels- must be defective adrenals or something. My sweetie is the opposite- she can always find something to worry about. Not so good for one's health, but then, my chronic lack of stress makes it possible for me to be a terrible procrastinator, so there is a trade-off.
