Although there is no single feature that all people with AS share, difficulties with social behavior are nearly universal and are one of the most important defining criteria. People with AS lack the natural ability to see the subtexts of social interaction, and may lack the ability to communicate their own emotional state, resulting in well-meaning remarks that may offend, or finding it hard to know what is "acceptable".
|
That's me. I don't know if its that I don't pay attention to other people, but I miss out on "subtexts" all the time. I find it, well not offensive, but patronizing for someone to come up with a syndrome just because you say what you mean and expect others to do the same. I wouldn't say I have difficulty communicating my own emotional state, I just don't see why I should. What the hell does that even mean anyway? Oh I see, that results in "well meaning remarks that may offend, or finding it hard to know what is "acceptable." This is sounding more and more like bullshit. I mean, I can understand people getting offended by someone not knowing what is "acceptable" when they, I don't know, take a leak on the sidewalk, but I think this has to do with more subtle instances. I've got to read more, but for folks in this age of "accepting" everyone because of their "individuality" telling people who think differently that they have a syndrome is fucking stupid. "Oh, you guys have higher IQ's and don't necessarily buy into the same bullshit that everyone else does..... lets say you have a syndrome and make a treatment for that."
What a bunch of bullshit. I'll read more though.

Goddamnit this keeps getting better and better.
I'm literally laughing so hard that I'm dizzy.
Thank you Santa Claus, you have made my year. I'm going to have so much fun with this in my "social interactions."

An Asperger patient's apparent emotional detachment may confuse and upset a neurotypical person, who may in turn react illogically and emotionally — reactions that many Asperger patients find especially irritating. This can often become a vicious cycle

Does this seem ass backwards to anyone else?

Some professionals contend that, far from being a disease, AS is simply the pathologizing of neurodiversity that should be celebrated, understood and accommodated instead of "treated" or "cured".[60]

Woo hoo, thats what I'm talking about.

I know a couple of people with aspergus. Call it a syndrome or not, it is noticable. It just means they find it hard to socialise, they do things others find rude, they take things the wrong way, and so on.

Do you mean that the aspies take stuff the wrong way, or the "neurotypicals" take it the wrong way?

The people with aspergus take things the wrong way. Of course, the others may take what people with aspergus say the wrong way.
But the main effect is that the people with Aspergus appear very rude. They're not doing it intentionally, they don't realise that other people consider what they're doing is rude.
