Health Care Reform?

WASHINGTON, Dec. 23 — Most of the nation’s hospitals and nursing homes will have to teach their employees how to ferret out fraud and report it to the government under a federal law that takes effect next month.

The law encourages people in the health care industry to blow the whistle on their employers. Many health care providers said this week that they were unaware of the requirement, and when informed of it, they described it as a burdensome, potentially costly federal mandate.

IMO this is a stop gap move. Do not think it will help that much.

Health care reform? Sure it's needed, look at our country. So many diseases that are preventable grow each year, obesity isn't slowing down, people are dependent than ever on pills and drugs, etc. We should take better care of our health.

Oh, I suppose the subject is our broken "Sick-Care" system, to treat the illnesses we have set ourselves up for. For that I say the remedy is to actually have preventative health-care.

IMO, any reform offered by the politicians will be a band-aid for a gun shot wound.

Unless they do something about lobbyist who dictate our policies and laws nothing will change.IMO. I see more lip service than solutions.

The baby-boomers are going to be the biggest drain on our healthcare system in the future while nobody in Washington seems willing to address the looming crisis.

Fraud is part of the problem, but the sheer number of people who will be requiring long term health care will be the straw that breaks the camels back.IMO.

IMO, if we did not have to fund a damn silly war, then a pretty good health care system could be in nthe making--I mean $350 billion could be a very good start.

I know this thread is about how to pay for health insurance but we'd be better served if we stopped believing the crap about nutrition that's fed (pardon the pun) to us by the agribusinesses. They tell us what we should eat (only things that give them the most profit) under the guise of goverment recommended daily nutritional requirements. Then when we get sick from eating the crap in the "food pyramid" we have to spend enormous sums affecting a cure.

Pardon? I'd like to know who is eating nutritionally sound food "fed" to you by the government and then getting sick by it. Most people eat like crap and don't exercise, as evidenced by our incredibly chronic sick and overweight society. It would seem everyone is going against that science researched 'crap' reccomended by the government. I see the effects of sedentary lifestyles and the average diet almost everyday in hospitals.

But how would society be better off eating worse, like is happening today? It seems that when compared to other countries who don't suck down the types of foods we do and actually use their bodies with types of exercise, they don't have even a 1/3 of the chronic illnesses we do. I've noticed more and more that the better I have taken care of myself through eating better foods and exercising regularly, the less doctor visits I make and the less needless illnesses I run into. On the other hand, the people that I know that do the exact opposite are making more frequent tripes to the doctor or are told my their health care providers that they are setting themselves up for major problems down the road.

But the government has no right to dictate peoples nutrition, if that's what you're getting at. People are free to make their own shitty choices, it just better not be someone who did take care of themselves who has to foot the emphysema bill.
