Inside the Ring*-*-*The Washington Times, America's Newspaper
This article talks about the progression made in the Philippines but also gives a brief synopsis of GWOT in other hot spots. Things are definitely going in the right direction. Some interesting points in this article:
-Locals (Fililpinos) defeating Abu Sayyaf with the help of Spec Ops
-The difficulties of fighting JI in Indonesia
-Pakistanis continuing fight in the GWOT
-Local disapproval of AQ in Iraq
-The best sources of information on terrorists and their plans are the terrorists themselves through interrogations
-Al Qaeda aims "to execute a spectacular attack that would cause mass casualties, massive destruction and economic harm” against the US
With all the progress we’re making against terrorists it would be ridiculous to pull out now. And with that last point, I think it’s a bad idea for our forces to pull back to the US and wait for this attack. I think it’s better we go outside the US and attempt to foil such plots before they reach our soil.
