The Left vs. Radical Islam
If we can agree that some of the most fundemental precepts of the political left are women's rights, homosexual rights and secularism, and if we can agree that radical Islam, as practiced as a religious faith and political ideology, is violently antithetical to the precepts listed above, as they are defined by the political left, then how does the left justitfy it's hysterical opposition to the war against militant Islam knowing that by doing so they are condemning millions of women, homosexuals and secularists to beatings, prison or worse? Can anyone enlighten me on this seeming conundrum? I would think that they would be leading the charge against such a unprogressive and reactionary evil?

Hawkins,
You're not really saying the left is pro radical Islam are you? Can't someone be against this war and not be generalized as being pro radical Islam?

Leftists dont support the surpression of women. But other countries can't be invaded each time we dont like something there and in our own countries, leftists are very well demanding that Muslims dont disrespect our laws.
What Leftists oppose is to call every believing Muslim automatically a radical Muslim.

Reeve,
Only if you are a pacifist, or you just don't care what happens to others.

Hawkins,
I'm not Reeve (I don't know what that word under each sn means, maybe someone else knows.), but I earned my passiveness with a Nam tour. I don't want for others what had to happen to me and my friends.
I believe this; Islam has become an excuse for serial killers to hide behind masks and behead those who do not agree with them. I hate what they are. They die for a cause that I cannot pretend to understand. It sucks.
I also believe this; We went to find Bin Laden, got distracted first by The Taliban and then by the lies of Iraq. We went in and blew apart a country to remove one man and his sons. Now the ever lenghtening field of things to be accomplished never seems to end. That is what this man and many like him are against. It does not make me pro radical Islam. To continue to say that the left is, means that you're not listening.

One country should not take it upon themselves to change the world and all of the human rights therein. The Nazis tried and failed.

Sorry about the name confusion. I'm new at this, and am still tiying to fiqure things out. First of all, let me say that I honor you for your service to our country. I, also, am a vetern, though I have never been in combat. I just wanted you to know that.
You have certainly earned the right to be a pacifist. I will not dispute that. I will not dispute with you the wisdom of the war, or how we got into it. I did not think it was a good idea either. I also believe that the war has been prosecuted incompetently. I hold George Bush responsible for this. I don't like him for a number of reasons. I think he is an idiot, but he did not lie. The fact that the left accuses him of lying is the real lie. This is indisputable. From now on I will not take anyone seriously who tells me that Bush lied. Its nothing more than propaganda that if repeated enough, people believe.
We are at war whether you or I like it or not. We cannot just leave the way we did in Vietnam. We are starting to make progress. We are finally fighting the way we should have from the beginning. We must succeed in this fight. There is no other option.
I cannot take into account all the ideological nuances that separate one leftist from another. When I say the "left" I mean it in a general sense.
No BS. Thank you for you service. Best wishes.

Good post, however, me and most Iraqis didn't believe that US came to Iraq just to overthrow Saddam; keep in mind that, Iraq has the largest oil reserve in the wolrd plus some kinds of rare, expensive minerals like red mercury......
you said "Islam has become an excuse of serial killers", under the current circumstances "Israel-Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan..... it seems the influence of that excuse is developing very rapidly. and I think, if things get a little worse than now, for instance, if Al Qaeda seized Pakistan, or Israel launched a major offensive against Hezbollah or Hamas, or if you bombed Iran. then that excuse would instantly turn into a sacred obligation.

Well, many are against the war for other reasons, but there are a few extreme leftists who support radical muslims. It's a kind of "enemy of my enemy is my friend" type thing. The radical Muslims hate America, the extreme leftists hate America.
I ought to point out that America's main ally in the "War on Terror" is Britain. Which is governed by a party that defines itself as "a democratic socialist party". It was Blair's leftist thinking that gave him the ideological basis for it. That's not to say that was the main reason why he did it, but it was a contributing factor.

Hawkins,
First, thanks for the kind words, much appreciated. As for the difference between lies or idiocy, I'll call it a draw, one is as bad as the other. At least if he was lying he looked smart enough to lie. That he is that stupid is scary as hell. For me, that is nearly splitting a hair when discussing someone in that position. You're correct when you say that we're at war and I don't have to like it. I share the hatred of the enemy with my brothers on the right. I can share your goal and disagree with your strategy. I guess that is what gets me riled as much as anything. But, seems that both sides miss that point. I'm a little sick of being called names by people giving little thought to who they're slamming. I'm no less a patriot than anyone and no more than anyone else. Patriots do not always support the cause. As I said however, I do support the end game here. I want radical Islam ended. I want terrorism gone. I don't think we're going about it the right way. I do not believe in this tactic.
