Sure, it's something many people live for.

I originally had two stereotypes of americans: slack-jawed southern, right wing, gun nut yokels or loud, abrasive, stupid gun nuts. I knew of course that not all americans were like this.
After debating with americans, some fit parts of my original stereotypes but i also found that there were those who were calm, considerate, cynical and intelligent enough to not believe everything that they were told.

Red states vs blue states. Other than a handful of states (Ohio, Florida, New Hampshire, etc.) states vote on party lines.

The only celebrity/ pop culture show that I watch is The Soup. It is literally the only show worth watching on E! channel. I watch it because the host shows just how insipid, hollow, ridiculous our celebrities and pop culture are. I can watch 30 minutes of the soup and get and idea of just how ridiculous people were that week.

I thought about that, but Joel McHale, I believe, genuinely hates these people and uses his job to publicly ridicule them.

I don't think most Americans concern themselves with pop culture as much as it must seem like they do.
If I had to describe American culture, I'd say it emphasizes individuality and creativity, and glorifies wealth, hard work, social status, and material possessions. I partially subscribe to the "melting pot" theory as well; many different and diverse cultures have offered significant contributions to make our culture what it is today.
