Anti-Americanism on the rise - an analysis

Forbes published a really interesting analysis on the issue of Anti-Americanism. I think this issue is the home to many rumors, myths and errors.

In my very own opinion this analysis draws the sitution as it is in an unbiased and clear way.

Anti-American Sentiment Grows Worldwide - Forbes.com

Source:
"Oxford Analytica is an independent strategic-consulting firm drawing on a network of more than 1,000 scholar experts at Oxford and other leading universities and research institutions around the world. For more information, please visit www.oxan.com."

Do you agree with it?
And do you agree with the possible consquences this analysis draws?

I was surprised that South Korea showed such anti-Americanism. I was also surprised that it claimed that 30% of the British trust Bush. I've never met anyone here who said good things about him.

Here (in Britain) anti-Americanism seems to me to be very connected to Bush himself, and to American conservatives generally. I think that if the Democrats are elected, European anti-Americanism will fall, regardless of which one is elected, or if they are in any way competent at all. It might fall with a Republican if he presents himself as being less pro-war, more intelligent, and less Christian than Bush.

I agree with their conclusion, that anti-Americanism has been waxing and now will wane, in a natural cycle, with a new president not associated with Bush and the Neocons.

I would say, that even if you elect another Republican president, the American reputation could improve again.

Its pretty much a matter of how he will act on the international floor. If he acts the Bush jr. style than forget your reputation. But if he tries to change it back to a respectful and normal level of diplomacy, and you act also that way, your reputation will improve again, at least in Europe.

Of course a Democratic President might have more in common with European ideas, but after all it was not so much the question of republican or democratic politics that ruined the American reputation that much, it was extreme unilateralism ("You are with us or against us", ie follow us blindly everywhere or feel our frawth), war mongering, spitting on human rights and perhaps also the spying around on European civilists (our bank transactions as well as most private personal datas of everyone who dares flying to the US etc etc) among others.

If you change at least some of those things above, it will go up again. No matter if its done by a Republican or Democrat.

Forbes Article

I'm going to drop the Forbes article on another website I visit. It is owned by the Murdoch organization and there is at least one plainly 'Murdochian' editor/moderator there. The fallout should prove amusing.

South Koreans have had an anti-American attitude since at least the time Bush was elected. Koreans want to re-unite and they felt they are being wedged apart for:

* The US to keep bases in South Korea
* So the US can have an excuse to build a missile shield
* So the US can continue to twist South Korea's arm to buy our military equipment
* Since they think Bush is just stupid and militant/playing some political game with their country as a pawn
