Hands for Humanity Our hands are the agents of our souls, performing the will of our thoughts and emotions. Throughout history they have served our desires. They built our monuments, our offices, and our homes, but also destroyed environments, communities, and nations.
In our virtuous times our hands reached out to those with cultures and races different from their own. In our ignoble moments they oppressed and isolated those perceived as being "different".
DRUM was founded for the purpose of helping cultures with admitted differences to find a common identity through music. A hand beats the drum to make a rhythm. It's a cultural and emotional expression and an invitation to others to listen or participate. Other drummers respond to the call for harmony and a rich mosaic of drum beats comes into being. That is the dialogue of music which DRUM is creating.
In the last decade, music and the people who make it have emerged as a fourth rail of positive energy in a diplomatic, social, and political process that too often fails to serve our needs humanely. DRUM will join this effort and provide it new platforms.
DRUM will assemble a wide array of great contributors to world music and support them through concerts, media appearances, CDs and the World Wide Web to lead a peace initiative that moves to the popular beat of a different drummer, picking up and spreading wide the rhythms of life that can sustain and inspire us to fresh heights.
Respect and understanding among civilizations through the dialogue of music-that is our tune. Join us! We need your hands today.
