Cool America's Great Drought?

Based on a feature article in the Drudge Report, the U.S. is sinking into a continent-wide drought that could exceed the Great Dust Bowl drought. Back then farmers were forced to abandon their land to become the Okie migrants living in shanty towns and desperately seeking work. If this drought persists, it will have major impacts on the far flung suburbia that has taken over former farmlands and arid grazing lands. Las Vegas is already in a heated battle with the surrounding region over the declining level of water in the Colorado River. Americans use 50-to-60 gallons of fresh water every day. When factoring in industrial use, our per capita consumption is over 1600 gal. per day. As the climate warms the demand for water will climb while availability declines. Obviously, changes in water use will be critical. Watering the lawn and taking long showers may soon be fond memories.

Well, you might want to look at a more scientific report than a Drudge report.

Actually, I have. I puruse a personal list of publications daily that cut across a broad range of political positions, including a few on the fringe. I figure it is a good idea to see how a given event or topic is being reported from different perspectives. Drudge is unquestionably a bit to the right, but it does occasionally include some some good reporting from other publications. In this case, it was a London paper. I also figure that when publications such as Drudge, Fox, and other of the more conservative leaning sources begin including reports acknowledging the seriousness of climate change it usually means that the topic has reached critical mass.

Insofar as accessing other more credible sources, I have been following this subject as an aside to my interest in global warming. This includes reading government and academic reports as well as popular media articles.

The following link is a good overview of the current drought conditions:
