Russia possibly. In my estimate though, North Korea seems to be hanging by a thread.

doubt russia. they dont have the soft power that attracts nor the economic relevance in a globalized world. they have a strong military, an unilateral attitude and are surrounded by countries that hate their guts.

The nations best positioned to be powerful players in the future are those with secure energy and food resources and whose populations are relatively stable. Canada is a prime candidate.

True, but look at their track record. Despite the fact that they have had some pretty tough times, their government has so much power, and such a strong ideological background that really anything could happen. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they had another revolution similar to one that brought Lenin into the spotlight and set the stage for the Cold War.

How do you define "superpower"?

Do you mean military capability or do you mean financially can influence the world?

Either one is actually an acceptable definition, I think, but Russia is in a unique position because of the fact that they have an effect on our psyche. The fact that we have so recently seen them as a primary threat to our nation, coupled with the fact that we are referred to as "the main adversary", makes them a contender for the term of "superpower".
