IF another race of people is able to get to earth from how ever many billions of miles away it is, then it will beat us in a war, easily, they would have much better technology than us, what, we gonna shoot down their massive ships with a Ground to air missile, or a silly little space shuttle, lol, i don't think so.

The idea of single world government is great, but there is just one problem… Each one of “the major nations” wants to be the ruler. Caesar, Alexander the Great, Genghis Khan, Napoleon, Queen Victoria, Hitler and Bush are just a few bad examples…
History shows that World government (of any kind) can never be achieved by force.
So far all attempts failed because they were based on military power, which brought nothing but war, death and destruction.
Now is the time to end this “age of hatred and destruction” and try new peaceful alternatives. Tomorrow it may be too late!

One world government: we have it. It's called the United Nations, and it can't achieve anything. The world is just too diverse culturally, economically, and physically to make a world government logically possible.

pfft, if the major western powers united nothing could actually stop us. lets face it australia on its own could esaily take countrol every nation between us and china. futher expansion right up to India's doorstep would be just as easy. we only have 20million ppl 2.

the US and Canada could easily take south america greenland, iceland, and Africa.

Europe and russia take out the Middle East.

then using the remaining millitary forces of all participating nations and the resources of all non-participating nations we crush china.

and that is how to conquer the world.

The UN is not at all powerful enough to be considered a world government. The NYPD gets more funding than the UN (minus the IMF, World Bank).
There's no need for a world government when international politics is no longer about zero-sum governmental competitions. It's not a world government that is emerging, it's a lack of government.
Each country will still have governments, but they will be less significant.

And they the only thing the few remaining would have to worry about is the nuclear winters.

You guys should read Kurt Vonnegut's, The Sirens of Titan. Not only is the plot driven in part by this very idea, but he also plays with the religious implications. Great read.

World government is a glass half full. We have the UN that often does nothing, and other international bodies like the World Court that the US sometimes does not support. Seeing the EU come into being is interesting. Kurt Vonnegut is one of my favorites- always- will happily read again. What countries have foreign troops active in their countries, and where are they from? Aussies have some troops in Asia keeping the peace, etc. Africa has a lot of foreign troops, and some countries could use more. Interesting list
