Turkish Woman Gets Sentenced - Political Forum

DIYARBAKIR, Turkey, Dec 14 (Reuters) - A Turkish court sentenced a woman to 18 months in jail on Thursday for making a speech in support of jailed Kurdish Workers Party (PKK) guerrilla leader Abdullah Ocalan.

The court ruled that Nesrin Deniz, a member of a Kurdish group campaigning for Ocalan to be freed, was guilty of making propaganda on behalf of an illegal group.

Deniz had told a large gathering during a festival in Diyarbakir in southeastern Turkey in March: "Mr Ocalan is an irrefutable reality of this country. A solution cannot be found without seeing that.

They are trying to provoke turkish ppl to start a turkish-kurdish conflict in the country.. there is no confrontation between turks and kurds in general, even pro-kurdish parties could only get %3 of votes while kurdish population is %12-13... PKK couldn't find any ground in political area, lost ground in armed struggle.. their only hope to create sharp confrontation between ppl which is futile..

Public--Does the fact that the Kurds in Iraq are flying their own flag, setting border stations and generally acting like a separate country, have any effect in Turkey? Will it help those Kurds in Turkey?

Well, there is no visible effect on kurds of Turkey yet, but Turks in general are very angry with it... Authorities, Military etc.. are trying to calm down public as saying "there wouldn't be an independence kurdish state, we took al required measures etc..."
