Gates : "Turkey was not appreciated enough"

Gates said: "Turks have offered us many things as a NATO ally in both Asia and the middle east. However, in return, it was not appreciated enough. The US is not winning the current war. The failure of the US can turn into a fire in the middle east."

Certainly a collapse in Iraq could lead to Turkey's worst nightmare, an independant Kurdistan sitting right on its border. As to whether we appreciate what they do enough, no I don't think we do. Turkey has been a western ally for decades, yet we always treat it as rather suspect, because it is Islamic. I should point out that this does not necessarily mean we are wrong, Islamist parties have gained in strength in Turkey in recent decades.

Well, Turkish troops was ready for it but USA was insist to locate Turkish troops away from kurdish and turkmen areas where turkish insterests exist. So parliament said it is not a balanced proposal, it only serves US interests there is no single turkish interest in the proposal and reject it. If proposal could be better balanced , there would be swarm of turkish troops in Iraq now..
