Just some food for thought.
The CIA pressed Germany to avert pressure from the EU concerning human rights violations of North African nations.
Thats interesting. Some time ago I heard Bush personally saying that the US is a defender of human rights. Dont get me wrong, I would understand if the US would try to make itself better than it is on human rights issues, every country does. But why the hell, does a US institution tries to blackmail Europe on making pressure against severe human rights violations in AFRICA?
I am confused, I am really confused and deeply concerened.
What I am not so confused about is that our damn governments suddenly after this incident took place started to systematically downplay human rights violations in countries who happen to be "valuable partners" (copyright CIA). WRT the torture flights it seems the last showing some motivation against the silent opposition from the member states is the EU parliament. Bad enough it has no real investigating powers except of interviewing responsibles and victims. But it holds the issue alive, the member states can not dig it and wait for the gras growing due to it. Thats allready something.
