Turkey Sends In Warships
ANKARA (AFP) - Turkey has sent warships to international waters off Cyprus amid a growing row over oil and gas exploration deals the island's internationally recognised government signed with Egypt and Lebanon, the NTV news channel reported.

The Cyprus question is always a conflict, it's one of the main barriers to Turkey's entrance to the EU.

Although, I'm not that familiar with the Cyprus question.
It seems to me that is another reason to put more money in alternitive fuel reserch.
The world might still have conflicts, but they wouldn't be over oil, and they wouldn't always come back to the same area.

I doubt that. The size of Turkey, it's political and economic problems, as well as Turkey's Muslim population are the primary barriers to EU entry, IMO.

So, if I understand the situation, the Greek Cypriots are drilling for oil and naturlal gas in areas claimed by Turkey?
I'd be interested in seeing what kind of ships Turkey has.

Well if you believe the conspiracy theories. Turkey has to fulfill variuous conditions to enter the EU, one of which is to sort out the Cyprus issue (the others are about things like human rights, religious and ethnic minority toleration, and the political power of the army).

Basically, one side of Cyprus is full of Greeks, the other full of Turks, and although they're officially one government they're defacto two different areas. Things aren't too bad at the moment, there's no violence or anything, but they're tense, and Turkey doesn't let ships from Greek Cyprus dock at its ports.

Europeans not wanting Muslims flooding Europe is as much a conspiracy theory as Europe opposing the Iraq War. If you think that's a conspiracy theory, then hey more power to ya.

While normal Europeans may not want Turkey in, it's too late, they've been accepted by the governments, if they can fulfill various conditions.
