Ukraine Muslims and Christians Brawl
Hundreds of Moslem Tartars brawled with Orthodox Christian Slavs in the centre of a Ukrainian provincial city on Thursday, the Interfax news agency reported.
A long-simmering conflict in Simferopol, the regional capital of the Black Sea peninsula Crimea, turned violent after more than 100 security personnel hired by a real estate company attempted evict Tartars living in an encampment built on a choice city lot.
More than a dozen persons were injured in fighting throughout the morning, four severely enough to require medical treatment. Police made six arrests, and suffered minor injuries themselves, said Oleksander Dombrovsky, a Simferopol police spokesman.

Why do you always have to bring up religion when this is clearly a conflict over rights to the land, as your own article correctly states ?
The Tartars were like so many populations and minorities resettled under Stalin , allowed to come back after 1990 and found their homes and lands often occupied by Russians or Ukrainians. This is a social and justicial question, but it definitely has nothing to do with religion.
The Tatars were living on Crimea since the mongol conquest ( actually they are a mongol tribe, if i´m not mistaken) alongside Greeks, Slavs, Jews etc., they have contributed to the peninsulas history with buildings like the former chans palace in Bachtyssarai

Yes, the Tartars were Mongols.
I agree with Voland, why should this have anything to do with religion? The American press always goes for that, if some people are fighting and some are Christians and some Muslims, then obviously that must why they're fighting, because no one could fight for any other reason!

The likely outcome is that Tartars will get thrown out, because they don't own the land.

Tatars are Turco-Mongol ppl who speaks a branch of Turkish language. (Very close what we speak in Turkey). Today, there are more than 5 million tatar origined ppl in Turkey, they are making campains for financial aid for the ones who return to crimea and buy back their lands or building schools operates in tatar language.. BTW, baby names Giray and Nogay which are the names of the famous Crimean khans are very common in Turkey...
Also There is a juicidal problem over Crimea, Ottoman left Crimea to Russia and only to Russia with a treaty , So if Crimea is not and won't be owned by Russia, it should return to previous owner according to int. law. Today nobody aware of this fact or nobody wanna talk about it, or waiting for the right time, only Russian extreme nationalist party leader told this fact in Duma...
