Lets recapitulate history of Russia:
- in 1914 triggers WW1 by mobilizing its troops. If it didn't mobilize them, Germany wouldn't have to attack France, and WW1 would have been merely a local conflict between AH and Serbia. Funny that today Serbia allies itself with Russia again, while the rest of Slavs distance themselves from Russia and choose to cooperate with western europe.
- september 1939 Soviet Union invades Poland, and murders many Polish citizens in Katyn forrest. Then Soviet Union goes on, and invades baltic countries, and Finland. I never heard Russians express sorrow about these events.
- after WW2, it installs communist regimes in Poland, Hungary (by Marshal Kliment Voroshilov, who ignored democratically elected government), Romania, and through russofile Benes also in Czechoslovakia.
- following WW2 - strong russification of non Russian population in Soviet union.
- 1956 Soviet Union invades Hungary
- 1968 Soviet Union invades Czechoslovakia
- 1978 Soviet Union invades Afghanistan
- 1994 Russia invades Chechnya, refuses to grant it independence, many civilian casualties in the following wars
And today - Russia supports breakaway regions Abchazia, South Osetia, Transnistria, bullies its neighbours with gas supplies, blackmails, threatens to direct nuclear weapons on europe.

Hardly a peaceful country. Not many countries would like to have Russia as neighbour.

1699 - Russia made an alliance with Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and Denmark against Sweden .
1721 - defeated Sweden , took from it four provinces situated south and east of Finland.
1772-1793-1795 : 3 partitions of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in which Russia got it's share ( and they were your allies a while ago , naughty , naughty).
1802 - occupied Georgia
1809 - took Finland from Sweden
1812 - took Bessarabia from the Ottomans ( it wasn't theirs to give, but still...)

I bet you are kind of proud of your country's past , it's imperial greatness , etc , but consider the fact that a lot of nations suffered because of Russia's "greatness".

It states During the 1897 Census, there were:
* 920,919 Moldavians and Romanians (47.6%)
* 379,698 Ukrainians (19.6%)
* 228,168 Jews (11.8%)
* 155,774 Russians (8%)
* 103,225 Bulgarians (5.3%)
* 60,026 Germans (3.1%)
* 55,790 Turks (Gagauzes) (2.9%)

In 1930, there were 58% Romanians ,11% Ukrainians, 12% Russians.

So most population was speaking Romanian language, and it was unnatural for them to be forcefully incorporated into Soviet Union, when in Moldavian SSR Russian was the official language.
