Women and Spain
Women dominate Spain's new cabinet
The cabinet of Spain's re-elected socialist government was sworn in on Monday with women forming a majority for the first time.
José Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, the Prime Minister, consolidated his position as an avowed feminist with a round of new appointments stating: "I feel very proud that there are more women ministers than men."

a government should be formed on a basis of someone being competent for the function. if you insist on selecting on sex you give to much importance on an emanicpation issue instead of a good-governance issue. forming a government should not be a statement.

Hi folks!
The women affiliation to Socialist Party of Spain is only 30%, so in order to be fair form every 100 socialists candidates, 70 should be men and 30 women.
We have create a new Equally Minsistery. It has no real content but it sound trendy and progresist. The new Minsiter in charge is a 31 years old woman, whose political record is that she's been in charge of the Flamenco Department in Andalusia regional Goverment.
What a superb curriculum!
All this women stuff in Spain is just cheap propaganda.

When commies took power in Russia (USSR) one of the slogans was: "Even a women-cook can rule the state". Sure, they didn't realized it in full, but low political competence (just like cook have) of our liders gone bad. So I'm agree with presluc

Hi, Jabato!
I don't know but I'm pretty sure that at least half of the population in Spain is made of women. So, what's wrong with them having jobs in the political sphere? You shouldn't mock anyone's curriculum especially when such curriculum used to be framed by the popular disregard against women... Women can be great heads of state in today's world: Look at Great Britain!

Hi Parisyann!
But it does not matter the amount of women in Spain, IMO. What is a fact, I mean, is not debatable, is that in the Spanish Socialist Party only 30% of its affiliates are women and 70% men. So this mean that there are many more men showing a real interest in politics than women, so this should be the first fact to consider when you have to make a candidates list.
I got no problems with women having political jobs, but when we are talking about equality, in this case, equality does not mean 50/50, but 70/30. From every 100 candidates, 70 must be men and 30 women.

I understand your use of basic algebra, arithmetic to resolve a complex political issue but I believe there are times when the best possible man around to do the best possible job here is just a woman what can I possibly say

Maybe that was too sarcastic but what I mean is *times have changed*... It's no more an exception for a lot of women to have political jobs... To be heads of states for them is still an exception if I may say I mean there are much more men out there... Now I hear more women in Spain are going to get political jobs, and, you are right, if you think it is a great number compared to what they used to get (close to naught)... Then way to go, good news!
