interesting and impressive ~ perhaps somewhat narrow, if you were able to learn/understand something of those events that maybe better than getting a little bit about alot of different things.

ok Kazikli ~ war of intervention ~ what was it?

please give an answer without looking

i wish i had known about this when i was growing up.

it really is a long time ago, but the main lesson out of it was how we became wealthy mostly on the extortion of natives and created one of the first joint stock companies, the VOC (east-india trading company). and how we lost it to the japanese in ww2 and didnt let go of the last of the islands untill the US forced us to.

So the history...(Russian version)

My first history lesson at school was when I was 9 or 10 years old. It was kind of brief overview of main events. After that we had a history lessons every year till the graduation from the school. So, i have been studing history for 7 years at school (including 2 last years in high school). At some point we had two courses "Russian history" and "The world history". If i remember correctly it was 4 hours per week. Eventually I have decided to take History as an exam at high school. There were two compulsary papers "Algebra" and "Literature" and 3 papers of your choise for the last exams. My choises were "English", "History" and "Chemistry".
Also, I would like to notice that we had other papers as well (and no choice for students). For example: Geometry, Geography, Astronomy, Physics, IT, World Art History, Biology and etc.

History lessons covered Ancient history (Babylon, Egypt etc), Roman Empire, European History, American History, Asian history and a bit African and Middle-Eastern and whatever you want to add to this list.

However It was not enough for me and after school I went to University for my law degree and guess what? More history. I had as separate papers "Russian History of 20th century", "The History of political and legal development", Philosophy, The history of the state and law...

I wish I could say something positive about the American education system, but I can't. My teen ager came home one day announcing they are going to watch Al Gore's flick about global warming. Why? The liberals in charge of the education system don't mind showing the kids garbage, just don't teach them where to find their country on the map. That's just too much, we can't have that.

Thats interesting. I would have thought that Iran would see Mosaddegh as being heroic for standing up against the West. Why is he condemned in the Iranian history text?

I just wanted a proper context for your comments. It sounds like Russia has quite a bit more required global education than is typical in many western European countries.

As some one very young compared to most of you(im only in 9th year)i can probably offer a fairly unique point of view.History mostly involves copying from one sheet to another without much independant thought. It is also fixated on martin luther king. in the last 3 years we'v done black american history 7 times! i now know the story off by heart. So far we've done nothing outside europe except the ww1 and nothing after 1900 except ww1, everything that happened after may as well be nothing for all the effect the government thinks its had. No mention of the middle east, no communism, no colonialism nothing remotely controversial. Lots of kings though.
