Turkey Says Us Not Helping With Kurds
ANKARA, Turkey: The Turkish prime minister accused the United States on Wednesday of not living up to a pledge to help counter autonomy-seeking Kurdish rebels, despite the appointment of a special envoy to address the threat guerrillas pose to Turkey, a news report said.
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said no action had been taken to expel the Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK, from its bases in northern Iraq or to cut off financial support to the rebel group, CNN-Turk television reported.
"We were expecting serious steps, but these did not materialize," the station's Web site quoted Erdogan as telling reporters during a flight to Lebanon.

The problem is that the Kurds are the only people in Iraq generally happy with the US, so it doesn't want to make them its enemies.
Consider what would happen if Iraq split, which some people think it might. An independant Kurdistan right next to the Kurdish region of Turkey? Could cause a lot of problems...

Well, this pushes Turkey to coorperate with Iran and Syria against a possible Kurdish state... Infact a landlocked (Iran in the east, Syria in the west, Arabs in the south) kurdish state can't survive without Turkey's support, currently their only gate to the world is Turkish border, they are using Turkish aerospace for flights, getting electricity from Turkey, there are millions of turkmens in N.Iraq etc.. So Turkey didn't move a finger against kurds yet for the sake of supporting US efforts while she is capable to turn nortern iraq to hell...But kurdish region of Iraq exports terrorism to Turkey in return...

And closes the door to the US suggesting an Iraqi Republic with Kurd, Sunni and Shiite states reporting to a federal government sharing resources as part of a 'new' Iraqi solution.

I posted an article about the US raiding a Kurd camp in Iraq, looks like they will try to appease Turkey.

ANKARA: Jailed Kurdish rebel leader Abdullah Ocalan has asked for an independent commission to look into the bloody 22-year conflict with Turkey to pave the way for reconciliation, the pro-Kurdish Firat news agency reported Wednesday. "Let us mutually forgive each other. Let us not just forgive each other, but also bring to light, confess our mistakes and disclose the truth," the agency quoted Ocalan as saying in a letter he sent to members of Parliament and civic organizations last week.
"That is the only way for reconciliation," said Ocalan, the leader of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) who is serving a life prison term.

Turkey is warning US of a problem
Istanbul - Turkey warned Saturday against integrating the multiethnic city of Kirkuk, northern Iraq, into an autonomous Kurdish region.
'I fear that it could come to a very big civil war,' said Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Ergodan in a television interview.
'Kirkuk belongs to all Iraqis,' he said. 'It would be wrong to give the city to only one ethnic group.'
