Do you think we can truly change the climate of the Erath?

Now theirs no doubt the earth is getting warmer but the question when it comes to the debate on global warming is or should be is are humans the ones creating the warming? To me is kind of a weird and self-centered idea to think that we as people can have any affect on the weather. My question simple do you think we can truly change the climate of the Erath if so why?

I think we can only HALT or DRASTICALLY REDUCE the destruction we are committing on this planet's atmosphere.

We constantly burn things to get electricity and to make our cars, trucks, boats and planes move. Burning things releases CO2, causing global warming. What they do in China (burning coal) causes the skies to be dark for most of the year, lung cancer, as well as acid rain.

Our first priority is actually not to slow global warming but to find a new energy supply, as we are going to run out of oil in a relatively quick amount of time. As rodog alludes to, the key is science.

* Using algae as a biodiesel - I have not read a huge amount on this but, I have posted on it in the environment section and I think that this is an amazing idea. Algae is far more efficient than any other biodiesel and it requires no fertile land. I think this is our best chance to replace fossil fuel.

* Solar power

* Fusion power

I think that will help a lot. I think that we should really be talking to China and India about how they can burn their coal more efficiently. We should make the technology available to them and we should even consider subsidizing it. That could be politically impossible, but worth considering.

What makes you think we can hurt or help the Earths atmosphere? it just seams a little to much for me that some think we have the power to affect if its hot or not outside what makes us think we can do that?

Well firstly, the world's leading scientists say so. Our National Academy of Scientists as well as scientists from around the world say so. Scientists say things (i.e. swept wings make a plane travel faster, or Force = mass x acceleration). I will believe what scientists say. They use evidence and computer models and experiments and they are very knowledgeable people (far moreso than you or I) with no incentive to lie.

Secondly, burn anything, look at how much smoke it sends up. Now think about 6 billion people constantly burning things and how much smoke that would put up into the air. All that smoke is going to have no effect at all? It has no lasting effects?

Thirdly, do you believe that we can use nukes to destroy all life on this planet and make the planet uninhabitable? What do you think would happen if we blew nukes up in the planets atmosphere? Given the power we already have, I don't think that climate change is a great leap of the imagination.

What I find amazing is the degree of denial that some people exhibit when it comes to accepting responsibility for our actions. We pump millions of tons of greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere on a daily basis. Try to visualize the relative thickness of the earth's atmosphere. In relation to the size of a standard table top model of the earth the atmosphere would be less than a single coat of varnish applied to the globe. Now, try to imagine the millions of cars, trucks, trains, aircraft, ships, factories, building furnaces, electric generating power plants, etc. burning billions of tons of coal and oil discharging enormous volumes of CO2 and other greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere. Can human activities impact the climate? Of course it can. There are over 6 billion of us voraciously consuming the planet's resources and and dumping our waste into the air and water. Denial is a poor substitute for accountability.

I think that is quite sure to hadling our climate by technics of sciences.
Even if we can make huricane, or claud artificiel or use technics of solar system, it possible the weather or climate can be change or modify.
Example)
1) Why don't try to make airpurifications all the world , in every grand city?
2) Wht don't use the energy by pannel of sun(for buildings, houses) for everywhere?
There are many place too hot cause the sun, so it can use electricite from sun, by that economise of electricites can send someplace impossible using it.
3) We know how can make nuage(clauds) in the sky, so that method can be use somewhere to need water.
4) In agriculture, someplace does'nt have a lot of water(near desert or sec place) we have the technic which use with only small water for plants.
5) Why don't try to make more water purifications all the rivers of world and waters?I heard that exist the system of purifing of water by using of grand emons.
6) There are so many CO2 in nature(under the lakes or seas),
the chemist know that the method to make for occision from CO2, or
with some elements of chimic, can make more O2 or less O2,
All is possible by our technics(I just foget the name of elements)!
7) For pole nord& south pole and high mountains, we can put many machin of snowing for protection of glaces by electricites of winds or solar system, in full time using it.
8) In desert, we can make big city of artificiel by enveloped all glasses,
by using all system solar electricites...
Making many canal in there(desert or sec land)
9) If you want, you can have imagins, it will be all possible! that 's nice job!

AS ALL the good imaginations for world, we need to use our forth correctly not for wars stupid!

The world is very beatiful, so beautiful when we love each other.

Of course we have the ability to change the weather and we are doing it when we release CO2, CFC's, Steam, UHC's, and my personal favourite Perfluorocarbons, among other greenhouse gases. People who reject global warming are merely making life harder for future generations.

Combined the two countries have about 7 to 8 times our population and China is already second behind us in energy consumption.
But the question remains, would we have destroyed our planet beyond repair before they are used up?

I heard there was a time where before plantlife developed less then 1% of our planet's air consisted of oxygen, which is deadly to us. I believe it's 21% now although I'm not sure so such drastic changes are possible. I mean imagine how drastic of a difference the whether had to have been before that period?
Oh, it was hotter no doubt as the air would have been filled with CO2 and Nitrogen but with any terraforming process, abundance of CO2 is essential as it inhibits plant growth, rain, many things essential for creating a planet viable for living.

And thanks for bring up the Ozone hole, i find it hard to believe that people deny its existence or say that ithas always been there. The Ozone layer naturally breaks up as a result of free radicals, stabilising agents and itself, we have increased the speed of the break up of the ozone layer by adding other things up there that help0 break it down, but still, people like to deny that.
