How to eliminate emissions immediately

I work for a very large IT shop in the United States with one of the largest companies in the U.S. It publishes a company paper a published two articles weeks apart that pissed me off.

The first article was of the impact of technology and how it has changed the workforce. It looked at many different aspects of technology but also addressed one specific piece of data that I found interesting. It stated that the company has become so mobile that 73% of it's work can be done on the move and not in the office.

The next article, 3 weeks later addressed the need to reduce emissions in our area and around the world. The Comapny supports reduction in emissions through offering vanpools very cheaply, ecourages people to carpool with their own vehicles by giving them prime parking, and also produces lists of the most fuel efficient vehicles by class of car.

Basically, I found these articles be published so close together irritating because the Comapny seems to be blind. Fuel efficient cars are great but technology can cut emissions DRASTICALLY RIGHT NOW. 100% of my work right now could be done right from with NO change in productivity. 73% of my company could do 100% of their work from and not have to drive to work at all. The technology is here to completely ELIMINATE a large percentage of the population from having to drive to work. Why don't many companies realize this? Why sin't it used more?

Here's a quick solution... make all the environmentalist whack jobs peddle or walk to work. We wouldn't want those bastards burning fossil fuels and screwing up the environment.

How come those a-holes continue to burn petroleum if carbon emissions are so bad????

LOL!

I used to belong to a professional org that was largely left-leaning. One woman in it was a howling lefty environutcase who worked for an "environmental policy institute." She would rail against "conservatives'" blind ignorance about the environment, our racism, our failure to support the public schools, etc., etc.

She drove a Suburban.

Her son attended one of the most expensive, exclusive private schools in the Western US.

Typical.

Hypocritical.

Liberal.

This is lip-service that any company larger than about 20 employees has to pay these days unless they want the PC/Enviro nutcases down on them.

Yeah, telecommuting would be much better. But they want to make sure you are working, not lounging poolside. What seems like hypocrisy is simply CYA on their parts.

It's not "used more" because of both old-thinking and reality: this was tried largescale in the mid 90s and found not to work that well because if the boss can't pop in to make sure you are not napping at your desk, you tend to nap at your desk. The old thinking part of this is that it really matters that you are napping at 11:30 a.m., when you may be working at 11:30 p.m., instead and who the hell cares so long as you are getting your job done?

Remember that it's mostly, still, old guys like me who are the "bosses," and they (we) largely don't "get" this notion.

That will change, especially after the largest part of the Baby Boom generation has left the office.

Certainly there are....of course, that'd be barbaric...so instead they just destroy your career if you are someone who can be destroyed by your unbelief...say a politician or a univ. prof.

In Germany, there's a push on to make public "Global Warming Denial" the same sort of crime Holocaust denial is. Mostly just by being fined.

In the rest of the Western world, if you are a prof who "denies" man-caused global warming, you'd better be near retirement or otherwise very firmly in the driver's seat at your institution. Of course, non-tenured profs keep their mouths shut and any who want to recieve grants to study anything in the future, also keep their mouths shut if they don't happen to be members of the First Church of Global Warming.

Since the left controls education in this country, they are also able to force public schools teachers, K-12 to spout this nonsense...science textbooks talk about it as a fact, as if it's a soild and proven as the laws of thermodynamics.

It's kind of scary, actually. The left is able to direct research funding to only those projects that look for ways to further prove a human cause--and they damn sure better come back with those findings if those involved want to continue in that career or get funded next year.
