Exxon linked to climate change pay out
A think tank partly funded by Exxon Mobil sent letters to scientists offering them up to $10,000 to critique findings in a major global warming study released Friday which found that global warming was real and likely caused by burning fossil fuels.
The American Enterprise Institute sent the letters to scientists offering them $10,000, plus travel and other expenses, to highlight the shortcomings in a report from the United Nation's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a group widely considered to be the authority on climate change science.
"The purpose of this project is to highlight the strengths and weaknesses of the IPCC process, especially as it bears on potential policy responses to climate change," said the memo, which was sent to a professor at Texas A&M University.
"We are hoping to sponsor a paper...that thoughtfully explores the limitations of climate model [forecasting] outputs as they pertain to the development of climate policy..."
Story
Looks like the cat is out of the bag.
There has been a lot of complaints that scientists have been discouraged from supporting the global warming issue linking it to fossil fuels. This story seems to support those complaints. They definately have a dog in this fight, as they will be the big losers as evidence mounts, showing we need to concentrate more on alternative sources of energy.

Actually, I think we need to concentrate on other sources of energy for more pressing and REAL reasons than this "global warming" scam (it IS a scam).
The planet will continue through it's cycles of heating and cooling with or without US. Our SOCIETIES/CIVILIZATIONS need energy to maintain themselves.
Think about what would happen if we were told there would be no more oil in 3 or 4 years and our govts. told us ..."We hadn't expected to run out so soon so we hadn't really put together alternates. So we're gonna be in for some really rough times."

Most climate scientists in the world believe that there is global warming and that it is man-made. Their credentials and the preponderance of scientists who feel this way are credible and cast doubt on global warming naysayers.
As far as this story, it casts further doubt on global warming naysayers. One would think that if there were really some serious problems with the theory of global warming that one would not require $10,000 to show those problems.

MAYBE. That's what we HEAR. Have you actually surveyed them all ? Or would you be accepting the word of the MSM and the U.N. ?
Even if it WERE true (most of them beleive this) it doesn't MAKE it true.

I am accepting the word of the press that when they report that scientists from more than 160 countries said there is man-made global warming, that it is true. You are saying that the press is making that up?

It makes it far more likely than unlikely.

Alrighty then.
So, we all now know that webs opinion is actually logic and fact now
And that of course means that "global warming" is logical and factually based.
Earth doesn't, and never has gone through it's OWN warming and cooling periods. The advent of manKIND has started this "ball" rolling.
I see
It makes it far more likely than unlikely.
More opinion.
Which, like I said, we now know is a fact

Nice smilies, Thane. Nice fact-based arguments.
On one side we have the world's leading scientists saying there is man-made global warming. On the other side we have some conservative ideologues funded by Exxon who say there is not.
Herald News :: News :: Top scientists: Global warming real, worsening
Quote:
The report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change -- a group of hundreds of scientists and representatives of 113 governments -- unanimously portrays the science of global warming as an existing and worsening threat, officials told The Associated Press.
....
In the end, there was little debate on the strength of the wording about human activity most likely to blame.

I know.
You MUST dismiss the FACT that:
The Earth has gone through it's OWN warming and cooling periods. The advent of manKIND has NOT started this "ball" rolling.
To support your opinion that you now BELIEVE this mankind caused "global warming" idea.
Your opinion only.
Just like it's your opinion that only conservative ideologues believe that "global warming" is a fraud.
Beleive what you will. I choose to beleive facts. Not the OPINIONS of the LARGEST groups.
Oh. yeah, of course. Nothing that doesn't favor your opinion can possibly be fact.
Sorry, I fergot

More importantly than my opinion is the fact that one side has hundreds of experts and the other side are the employees of a major oil company. You keep trying to pass this off as my "opinion", when your position is actually shot down by experts in the field and the facts.
As far as this other comment you offer, well yes the earth's climate has changed naturally. However, it is now being changed unnaturally. The earth's climate can be changed naturally and unnaturally. It really doesn't matter if the ozone layer is being destroyed by both natural forces and human forces or just human forces alone. In either case, human forces are making the situation worse.
I know that you have a talent for dismissing simple logic like this: more of a bad thing makes a situation worse. This you would dismiss as "opinion." Well, if people are dumb enough to fall for smilies and the assurrances of Exxon employees, over the world's preeminent scientists, then I guess we deserve what we get.

Change the argument. That isn't at ALL what I'm "trying to pass off" as your opinion.
Actually it is YOUR position that is "shot down" by "eggsperts" and "***ds".
Continue on ignoring what you must ignore. No skin of my butt

There he goes back to his ozone hole crap
Human "forces" MAY be making it worse.
I've said that.
You've ignored that.
That we REALLY can't, and don't know how much effect we really ARE having is another thing you'll ignore of course.

Hooooo weee
That's a real kneeslapper, it is.
I have a talent for "dismissing simple logic"
Like I said. Beleive what you want to beleive. That what you seem to beleive right now falls short of the full story doesn't concern me.
It SHOULD concern YOU.
If it doesn't, that's no concern of mine.
