I have been accused of only posting negitive stuff--so here is some good news .

The first comprehensive survey of bird populations in Iraq seems to show that conservation efforts are working, but some species remain threatened.

Conservationists have had grave concerns for birds in Iraq since the drainage of 90% of Iraq's marshes by former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein.

The marshes were one of the Middle East's most wildlife-rich areas and supported important bird populations.

This is the first time I've heard about birds in Iraq, and from the American point of view, I don't think it is something we should be concerned with at this point.

Thanks, I do try. But now I will revert back to that I am accused of--could the increase in bird droppings be used as a weapon against the "good guys"?

I suppose they could be, if they were in a concentrated area.

I understand fresh bird dropping can be highly corrosive, so if they decided to attack our ground troops, they may present an equipment problem.

It could be good new if its of usa or other country which is running peacefully now. But it make no sense in the case of iraq I think.Bird can never be cared when there is so many people is being killed per day.

I agree with you that the birds have little to do with the suffering of the Iraqi peopl.

I think it speaks loudly on how nature can survive even in the middle of a devastating conflict, too bad the people are not fairing as well.

It is still good news, regardless. The survival of the birds does not take anything away from the Iraqi people; in fact, it suggests that the environment is not as degraded as we had thought. Healthier for birds may also mean healthier for people.
