See if you can see what is wrong with this statement
I found this statement on Boortz.com while eating my morning hot pocket. See if you can spot what is wrong with this statement:
Quote:
|
"Personal wealth is distributed so unevenly across the world that the richest two per cent of adults own more than 50 per cent of the worlds assets while the poorest half hold 1 per cent of wealth."

They are thinking we are all communists I guess. Nobody handed me the money I have. I had to work for it.

Personal wealth. What IS that ? Is it money ? Is it attitude and outlook ?
So, the richest two percent of adults own more than 50 per cent of the worlds assets.
And:
....the poorest half hold 1 per cent of wealth.
We go from richest 2 percent (of adults) to the poorest HALF.
We go from talking about ASSETS to talking about WEALTH.
I haven't the foggiest idea how I would interpret this. As poorly worded as it IS, I'd rather not bother trying. I'm sure we have a genious or two who is willing to interpret it for us :-)

Wealth isn't distributed. It's created.

The wealth fairy does that

Distribution does not need the planned act of distributing as you see it. It just says something where the money is to find. Nothing about its reasons. The whole quote says absolutely nothing about any reasons, just about the result.
So this talk about proclaiming communism lacks any basis.

So Slarti, was your wealth distributed to you? Or did you go out and earn it?
One thing, that has already been pointed out is that wealth is earned.
Also, it neglects to mention that governments own more than they care to say in that report.

Well, to be perfectly honest, I cheated. I knew where to look to find the article ( boortz.com: The world-famous Internet site of the Nationally Syndicated Neal Boortz Show!) that he was talking about and read it before I posted.
I know its nick picking at words, but I'm a big Boortz fan so I just played along.

Yeah, WTF about the government being the largest landowner in the US? I would like it better if that were not the case, unless it's all parks and nature reserves. How cool would it be to live in a neighborhood along the grand canyon though.

Yeah, I guess I was a little out of line saying that communists distribute wealth. Don't they just hoard it? Let's ask Kim Jong Il.
