The Fat Lady is Singing

Costly Crude Fuels Price Hikes On Goods You Use Every Day

Quote:
-- Let the consumer beware: Costs are going up on almost everything the average American family consumes.

Blame it on crude oil. The rocketing price of crude oil is not only sharply hiking the costs of fueling the car and heating the home, but is bidding up prices on the raw materials that go into goods from produce to perfume.
....
"Oil affects everything from top to bottom," said Phil Flynn, energy analyst at Alaron Trading. "Most people wear crude oil every day."
.....
"This unprecedented situation is simply not one that can be managed through the enhanced efficiencies and increased productivity that we are continually implementing at all levels of our company. As a result, we have no choice but to implement this price increase," he said.
....
Crude oil is among the most versatile products on earth. ........
Fox News is nortorously dismissive of studies or claims that the national economy is vulnerable to resource shortages. When they print an article like this it probably means that the proverbial fat lady is singing - and the good ole days are over.

The up side to high oil prices, is that it will spur R&D for alternate fuel sources.

I completely agree. It also will contribute to people using less oil in the form of gasoline, diesel and jet fuel. The cost of oil directly affects the price of just about everything we use, so our overall rate of consumption will drop. The amount of oil saved through these cut backs will far exceed what might be gained through the development of alternative fuels. In that regard, conservation is our greatest possible source of meeting energy shortages.
