Early dark evenings and damp chill make us hungry for old-fashioned filling dishes that seem slightly bad for us.
While sausage is one of those foods we think we probably shouldn't eat much, combining it with cabbage and onions makes for great dining without serious dietary transgressions.
Cooks all over the world use meat to make vegetables more appealing to their families. In Eastern Europe, that often means smoked pork combined with cold-weather vegetables such as cabbage.
And a good dark beer ain't bad either.
