I Would Shoot A Buglar In My Home - Would You?
I believe protecting my wife and children is one of the most important responsibilities I have.
After the forced home-invasion, multiple rape, murder and burning of the family in Connecticut we need to think about how we would handle it.
If the unthinkable happened to me and my family had a forced break-in while we were home - I would not even flinch or blink - I would draw a weapon and shoot to kill. I understand the legal repercussions of my actions might lead to my incarceration, but my family's safety is most important.
Sadly, I would most likely end up in jail for protecting my family because the liberal courts frown upon people protecting their family - they are more interested in protecting the 'poor, misunderstood' felon.
What would YOU do in this scenario?

I would pull my shotgun out of the closet and shoot them. Then again in Texas we can do that.

Yes, without a doubt.

If possible I would retrieve one my many weapons. However, I don't think I would shoot unless I felt an immediate threat to myself or my family. But if necessary I would. If not I would do everything possible to restrain the miscreant until public safety arrived. That may include shooting to wound. Timely question. My wife's car was pilfered night before last in our driveway.

Too many successful law suits by wounded criminals involved in break-in's, ask any police officer,(off the record) if you are going to shoot, be sure to kill them.

The problem with hesitating to check if they are armed and thus an immediate threat is that you risk getting stabbed or shot yourself. Which is why Texas law is written such that you assume that anyone breaking an entry intends to do you harm and you are permitted to use lethal force.

That would be very unusual for my family.
You don't really calculate that there will be a buglar in your house...of course there can but how often does this happen?
I wouldn't even touch a weapon. And then you have to have a gun license etc.
I would install an alarm system, that's it.

I would shoot their ass dead before they knew what hit them. And as Navigator said, just talk to a cop, they'll tell you to kill them so you don't have to worry about a law suit.

That's a pretty loose law. I imagine the assumption of most burglers is that no one is at home. You pretty much have to be a total idiot to burgler someplace you know is occupied. That's almost like attempting suicide.

I would shoot if my life or the life of a dear one was in jeopardy.
