Prostitution: Should it be legal? What is wrong with it?

What is so bad about prostitution? Why is it illegal? Throughout history there has been nothing wrong with it. Should it be legalized? I do not see anything wrong with it. I have been in a relationship for 2 1/2 years. I do not need a prostitute. I just am foreseeing and attack. In my mind it is just the government dictating morals between two consenting individuals. I would not get a prostitute, but that does not mean others should not be able to.

Very well said!! I have never been to a prostitute but I see nothing wrong with two consenting adults fulfilling a contract for a service!!

It would also allow the government to regulate and tax prostitution. Required std exams and training courses concerning safe practices and self defense!!

Las vegas has one of the fastest growing economies in the US and prostitution is legal and regulated by the government!! When we go to work we use our bodies and minds to make money: prostitution is no different than that!! It is a woman using her body to support herself!!

BTW: If you pay a woman for sex and film it, it is called porn!!! Which is legal and constitutionally protected under free speech!!

Larry flynt paid dearly to guarantee that right!!!

I agree with everything but the government regulation. They can tax is under the Fair Tax Plan. I think the company should regulate it. Let them be like a tattoo parlor. We use clean sex organs. If they lie and someone gets aids then the government can get involved.

They do this in Nevada and it is working out well. Unfortunately, people like to force their "morals" on others and instead of paying attention to the facts (it is cleaner and safer for the prostitutes and those who pay for the services) they just focus on the opinion (it's "wrong", it's "sinful", etc.)
It doesn't make sense to keep people in danger, on the streets, surrounded by drugs, being taken advantage of other people (pimps), being subjected to rape and disease, and being treated like 3rd class citizens over something that you are.. strangely... able to give away... but not sell.

No, I don't think prostitution needs to be legalized. Perhaps I'm not thinking rationally and am merely clinging to traditional values, but I say we keep things the way they are. You can always go to Vegas if you want a legal hooker, right?

I'm torn on this one. I do not like legislating morality, and the arguments that getting it out of the black market would help regulate it and make it safer for customers and prostitutes, I probably would not be caught dead arguing for its legalization if I were a city commissioner.

I'm not against it, but I highly doubt that it will become legal, or even decriminalized, in more than a handful of American cities in the next few decades.

I find it interesting though that you are allowed to get paid for having sex as long as it is recorded and then sold at a profit.

And just as a legal heads up for anyone on here planning to go to Las Vegas to get laid, prostitution (and brothels) are still illegal in LV, it is other areas of Nevada that allows licensed brothels. =)

Its the following deal.
Prostitution exists no matter if its legal or illegal, I think thats a pretty much proven fact. If its legal, that means the rightless suddenly begin to have rights, working protections, social security.

Of note is the fact that prositution is not illegal in the United States. While banned by all states except Nevada where it is addressed by individual counties as it should be.

Every argument supporting the prohibition of prostitution relates to illegal prostitution and not legal prostitution. None of the arguments hold up when someone addresses legal prostitution in Nevada.

Somewhat ironic that prostitutes were held in high esteem in most societies until the "Children of Abraham" (Jews, Christians & Muslims) started imposing their bigoted religious beliefs upon society.

Prostitution should be legalized. Porn is the same thing but filmed and sold; having sex with anyone is the same thing but free.

I personally would never engage in sexual promiscuities with a prostitute, I also believe that its wrong. Many of my reasons are attributed to my religion: Christianity. I won't apologize for my beliefs. However, I am also wise enough to see that decriminalizing prostitution would progress society in the fact that it would open the industry to government regulation and safety standards.

I think that it should be a decision made by individual states. Which it is to my knowledge. I could be wrong though. Nevada allows it, the other 49 do not. STD testing for prostitutes would be mandatory if the states allowed it, and contraceptives and protection would be a must while on the job. No condom-no sex.

Having laid that out, I would seriously discourage women from entering into that field of work.
