Congress to allow physical searches without a warrant

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this.

To boil it down to a one-sentence conclusion, Section 107 of the FISA Amendments Act of 2007 enables the Attorney General to order physical searches of anyone’s property or possessions without a warrant or accountability, at the whim of the Attorney General. That’s a frightening prospect.

The FISA Amendments Act of 2007 was introduced by Democratic Senator John Rockefeller. The bill has not passed Congress yet.

The bill violates the fourth amendment of the constitution, and should never have been introduced in Congress.

What do you think?

Petition asking Congress not to pass this bill.

Ever heard of customs at air ports and other ports of entry or the border patrol? They already have this authority and more! They need no warrant at all, ever! Are you saying we should not do any searches at these places unless the coyote says it is okay to look in the truck? Besides, all this is doing is the same thing the FISA court does now with wire taps. The AG has to notify a FISA judge that is going to or has authorized the search.

I am not crazy about it. I am a person that sees where our constitution could act as suicide pact if followed at every instance. There are times that parts need to be suspended in order to save it whole once those times have past. Unfortunately you can only know for sure if it is the right thing to do a generation or two later.

If following the rules is the only way you wage war, that is the tool your enemies will use to defeat you.

Congress continues to fuck up the Constitution and no one there gets the balls to stop them from eroding our good ol' country further.

Physical searches with no warrant...what is this world coming to? I understand that we, Americans, are more concerned about our safety now than ever but that kind of invasion of privacy is preposterous, absurd and unnecessary. Maybe I can understand a search if there was substantial probable cause but just for the heck of it? I can’t believe a bill such as this is undergoing serious consideration at Congress. Let’s just pray it doesn’t pass so we can keep a little bit of our so-called freedom.

This is not the same at all. At the airport, you willingly must give up the right. Your stuff won't be searched unless you let them. Though they won't let you on the airplane if you don't let them, it is still a voluntary search.

As for Customs, or at the border, that is coming into the country. You don't have to be searched, you could go back to the country you were in, but unless you voluntarily let them search you, they won't let you in.

This voluntary giving up of the right, is very different, then the police showing up at your house and searching you without a warrant no matter what you do.
