Question War On Photographers?

Because of what happened with Google today, I've been inspired to resurrect this issue of photographer harassment.

Thomas Hawk has also given this some pretty good coverage, but I'm curious what you guys think - is this all going in the right direction or the wrong direction?

I think if one is in a public place, they ought to be able to photograph whatever the heck they want.

I do a bit on independent film and I've heard of people almost being arrested for filming in a public place.

This is ridiculous, I agree with the OP, if its public anything goes. For Google to do this sets for an ugly double-standard.
