WASHINGTON, Dec. 15 — Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld bade farewell to the Pentagon on Friday with a combative valedictory speech in which he warned against hoping for “graceful exits” from Iraq and said it would be wrong to regard the lack of new attacks on American soil as a sign that the nation is safe from terrorism.

“Today, it should be clear that not only is weakness provocative,” Mr. Rumsfeld said, standing at a lectern with President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney at his side, “but the perception of weakness on our part can be provocative as well.”

Rumsfeld says goodbye--Now what? We got Gates--(yawn)

I , for one am very happy <RUMMY> is out. He was one of the worse .

At least you had an opinion on him leaving and thanx. I think he was the best man for the job that Bush had in mind. Not saying I agree with anything he did or said, just that he was a Bush boy.

I can't give him too much shit. I have no idea what it was like for him to have to make the decisions that he had to make. I think that a lot of people just don't like him personally, and when you don't like someone personally (for any reason) then it is very hard for them to do anything that you agree with.
