S. Dakota's Sen. Johnson has possible stroke
Would THAT be something ? 50 Demorats and 50 Republicans ? What a strange thing to consider. I wonder if this has ever happened before. A 50-50 split.
In addition to concern about Johnson's immediate health, his illness draws political concern in that the Democrats currently hold a 51-49 advantage in seats, giving them control of the Senate.
The governor of South Dakota is Republican Mike Rounds. Should there be a vacancy as a consequence of Johnson's illness and Rounds appoints a Republican to fill the term, that would make the count 50 Demorats and 50 Republicans. Under the rules of the Senate, ties votes are settled by the vote of the vice president - currently Republican Dick Cheney - effectively giving control of the Senate to the Republicans.

S. Dakota Senator Critical
) -- Sen. Tim Johnson of South Dakota was in critical condition Thursday after undergoing surgery, a hospital source told The Associated Press.
Johnson had brain surgery early Thursday at George Washington University Hospital after suffering stroke-like symptoms, two Democratic sources familiar with his condition told CNN.
There was no formal announcement of the South Dakota senator's condition, The Associated Press reported, but a person in the hospital's media relations office, who declined to be identified, said the hospital was preparing to announce that Johnson's condition was critical.
Could be n interesting turn of events.

I hope he recovers for the simple fact that he was the voters choice to represent them.

If he does not then the SD gov. can appoint a replacement and that would end a majority for the demos and make congress pretty much sterile.

This statement brings to light the reason the 17th amendment needs to be repealed. A Senator is supposed to represent the State.

It would be to benefit the States. They are not represented in Washington. France, China, Brazil, etc.. are represented, yet our own States have none.
