Coverage of Israel's 60th Birthday

I have not watched any television today but I have listened to a lot of news talk radio and I have not heard any US coverage of the 60th anniversary of the founding of Israel.

BBC radio has done a lot of coverage.

Why little or no US coverage? Have I missed something?

I dunno, did some celebrity flash somebody? That's what the American media thinks is important.

There is fair amount of coverage in Austrian newspapers I think, even though I skipped it mostly when reading them. I just remember having seen also an article about the corruption accusations against their prime minister and that a political crises could be possible soon.

I came to know about this 60th aniversary from a small street ad next to a nice dance bar I have been to a few days ago. There the Israelische Kultusgemeinde in Vienna announced the celebrations at the Zwi Peres Chajes Campus in the 2nd district.

Ok that has nothing to do with the US and its coverage, but its the local perspective of this all where I am from.

Just two responses to my post.

With the US traditional support of Israel, I really cannot fathom the absence of coverage or interest.

Perhaps the US administration does not want to be reminded that the Israeli state in 1948 was founded in the cauldron of what was then called terrorism (aka freedom fighters) with participants such as Moshe Dyan, Golda Meir and others.

Am I being cynical?

No, we just have more important things to cover, like Brad and Angelina, the Olsen twins, and our Presidential race.

I don't think the US media has ever prominently covered another nation's anniversary before.

Well it was covered here,

Link to bbc here BBC NEWS | World | Middle East | Israel marks its 60th anniversary

I agree with payingattention that it is strange if it was not covered in the US.
Perhaps the Guardian article here has something to do with why.
