Canada Spies on America?

U.S. warns about Canadian spy coins

By TED BRIDIS, Associated Press Writer Thu Jan 11, 4:16 AM ET

WASHINGTON - Money talks, but can it also follow your movements?

In a U.S. government warning high on the creepiness scale, the Defense Department cautioned its American contractors over what it described as a new espionage threat: Canadian coins with tiny radio frequency transmitters hidden inside.

The government said the mysterious coins were found planted on U.S. contractors with classified security clearances on at least three separate occasions between October 2005 and January 2006 as the contractors traveled through Canada.

Well, if the Canadians are spying on us then I guess we should stop worrying about the fact that our own government can now open our mail without a warrant. This sounds like another "look over here!" ploy to me. They don't even give you any information in the article.

They said it was more than likely Russia or China, maybe France.
I just figured that saying Canada would get a lot of WTF responses.

Not to forget Izzibeth the funny things the US spies on around the world. For example with Echelon. But also very nice is the systematic industrial espionage against European companies.

Not to forget that unlike in Canada we have towards America potential trials due to justified suspicion that CIA agents committed severe crimes in Europe.

But the average American voter might be more concerned about Canadian coins that endanger your security...

Did we already have a reason to invade France?
I'm sure that we could find a reason on www.fuckfrance.com. Or at least a half-assed reason.

I am sure you could get a whole collection of them. And if one falls you just swap to another one.... like in Iraq.

Ah, but the point is it's probably not the Canadians, it'll probably be the Chinese or the Russians.

Did any of you read about the British rock? A few months back, British spies were thrown out of Russia. They had what looked like a rock in a park, but it was actually a data holder. Their contact would go and stand by it, transfer the info to it with a short-range transmitter, then the spies would go and pick it up with a short-range receiver. That way, they never had to meet each other. But they got caught anyway.
