They even give him a red card. That was a good touch. It's good that chapter of the war is over.

CRAWFORD, Texas (AP) — President Bush said Friday that Saddam Hussein's execution marks the "end of a difficult year for the Iraqi people and for our troops" and cautioned that his death will not halt the violence in Iraq.

Yet, Bush said in a statement issued from his ranch in Texas, "it is an important milestone on Iraq's course to becoming a democracy that can govern, sustain and defend itself, and be an ally in the war on terror.

Another one states the obvious. Optimism is refreshing, not founded in fact, but refreshing none the less.

An interesting perspective.

Saddam to the gallows. It was an easy equation. Who could be more deserving of that last walk to the scaffold - that crack of the neck at the end of a rope - than the Beast of Baghdad, the Hitler of the Tigris, the man who murdered untold hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis while spraying chemical weapons over his enemies? Our masters will tell us in a few hours that it is a "great day" for Iraqis and will hope that the Muslim world will forget that his death sentence was signed - by the Iraqi "government", but on behalf of the Americans - on the very eve of the Eid al-Adha, the Feast of the Sacrifice, the moment of greatest forgiveness in the Arab world.

I am sure the Saddam saga is not quite over just yet.

The apparently imminent execution of the deposed Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein threw executives at television news organizations into hurried consultations today over how to handle pictures or video of the hanging.

Though it was not known whether images of the execution would be released, the news divisions at ABC and CBS said that, should video become available, they will show some visual documentation of Saddam’s death but will not use overly graphic images or show complete execution.

NBC News, however, indicated it might go further. Steve Capus, the president of NBC News, said that network may show “a wide shot of Saddam hanging.” He said NBC would make its decision based on questions both of taste and of history.

“I think it might be appropriate at some point to see an image of Saddam after he is hanged,” Mr. Capus said, citing previous historic images of dictators who had been killed. “I think about that iconic image of Nicolae Ceausescu in Romania, lying literally in the gutter,” Mr. Capus said. “I want to do this with a measure of taste, but I don’t want to stand in the way of history.”

TV Executives Debate Whether to Show Execution

It would be a ratings boost and after all is that not what they are in business for?

The EU condemmed this execution as being barbaric.

It sais one can not fight barbary with barbaric methods. You will only forge a martyr. Saddam does not deserve to become a martyr.

And this time also the British Government shares the European position.
...and perhaps for the catholics amongst you: The Vatican opposes it too. Just for the next time Bush uses the word God together with Iraq or Saddam.

I fully support this point of view. Europe opposes the barbaric relict of capital punishment, every captial punishment, and I am proud it follows this stance with the outmost constancy.

Although I will not say that Saddam did not deserve to share the same fate that he so haphazardly "handed out" to whomever he pleased, I am not happy to hear about anyone's death and I certainly will not be watching it or viewing any photos of it. Never understood peoples' obsession with watching people be killed.

Have fun with that though......

If the general public could ever grasp the fact that everything mainstream media presents them is based on generation of advertising revenue with every programming effort directed toward building their confidence to open their wallets (in the US credit cards), they probably still wouldn't believe it.
