Hitchhikers Guide?
Hey, has anyone read any of the hitchhikers guide books? I ordered a copy of, I think, 5 books in one volume and was just wondering if it was any good. I'm currently reading Johnathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, which is really good, but I'm on page 325 out of over 1000. I'm debating on whether or not I should put that book on hold to read the guide. I guess I probably should have asked before I ordered it.

I enjoyed the first two or three books very much. The last two books were a bit overly chaotic in my opinion.
But its definitely great fun if you like some anarcho comedy. The first book probably is the best of all.

They are good. Sometimes they wander off a little and can be a bit difficult to follow, but over all very good.

BEST books ever written. in my opinion, of course. Douglas Adams was a genius and i am saddened that i never got the opportunity to meet him/see him speak in a public setting.

I've read all of the Hitchiker's books and probably a couple hundred pages of Johnathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, and I much prefer Hitchiker's. I'd rather read it again than finish the latter book which I have yet to finish despite having started it about 2 years ago. Then again I think a lot of that book could be cut out with minimal loss in value. This coming from someone who thinks much of the book Shogun should be left intact.

Yeah, I've been huffing it to finish Strange and Norrell, it's pretty good, but I'm on page 450 now, and they have already defeated Napoleon, so I'm wondering what the next 550 pages are going to be about. For such a long book, it passes by surprisingly fast.
Another book I would recommend, to guys with a somewhat sick sense of humour is I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell by Tucker Max. It's pretty raunchy at times, but if you've ever had a history of crazy/weird situations and people, you will probably like it, plus you can read it in an afternoon.

Tucker Max is fantastic. I'm not sure if he's actually funny, but he can get himself into comic situations like a professional. Which makes sense since...it's his profession.

I'm a little over half way through Strange and Norrel and it's starting to pick up pretty good. A lot of the things that I had agreed could be cut out are now kind of coming into play.

Like the entire section where he's just socializing? Because that part sucked.
I also just recently acquired a copy of Freakenomics which is supposed to be really good. I'll let you guys know what I think in a week or so.
