My view is, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Australia gets a constitutional monarchy pretty much free, it's Britain that pays for it. It allows the Prime Minister to devote a bit less time to ceremonial stuff, and so a bit more time to policy. And, most importantly, you don't have to call John Howard "President".
But I'm not Australian, so I think my views are not really that important.

The left-hand flag is the proper, original flag of the 13 colonies. You should still be using it today, rather than those ridiculous stars. They're so tacky. Whereas the Union Jack is cool, and everyone knows it.

The royal family of Britain. She's descended from the Scottish King as well as the English King.
She's also Queen of Canada, and I think New Zealand.

My opinion is that Australia should remain a constitutional monarchy for as long as the United Kingdom of Great Britain and (Northern) Ireland remains one which will hopefully be FOREVER! Let's not forget that it was the British that built Australia. Australia was just a backward third world hell hole before the Europeans arrived. Australia is yet ANOTHER British success story! Australia remains a British nation and the strong ties between the two countries must not be broken or diminished. The constitutional link MUST remain!

I'm just a little concerned that with all the Asians and other foreigners that have been allowed to swarm in over recent years much to public dismay, that any future vote would go against continuation of the status quo. Asians of course have no cultural or historical links with the British Isles and so may be less likely to vote for the Monarchy. Hopefully though there will not be another vote on becoming an independent republic for a long time if at all. As far as I am concerned, the issue has been SETTLED with the '99 referendum when the republican model was SOUNDLY DEFEATED much to the loony lefts dismay.

The commie traitors are still pushing their proposed constitutional vandalism of course but few are listening to their anti-Australian & anti-European treasonous rants. Most people here either couldn't give a toss about it and would vote to see it continue as a result or are firmly in favor. Long live the Australian crown and God save the Queen!

What it's got to do with commies?
But anyway, if there was a referendum in '99, then I guess that ought to settle it.

Backward third world hell hole? i guess thats why british couldn't get from the west coast to the east whilst the aboriginals (the ones that lived in the desert with absolutely no problems) looked on upon the white men wondering why the hell they weren't coping. So tell me, if the brits were so damned advanced, how come many died trying to cross whilst the aboriginals were able to live there.

Not every one wanted the republican model smart one, that's why it failed.

Whomsoever calls Australia a backwards third world hellhole is, excuse me, full of shi* and incredibly ignorant. The aborignals are one of the greatest and certainly the oldest continuous culture on the planet.

Truly, there are those who think Australia is only the land of 'roos. Pity them. It's one of the greatest countries in the world. I lived there for some time and miss it dearly.

Politically, let Australia do as she pleases and it seems that she pleases to remain in the Commonwealth.
